Default First legit race with an LS1

alright so im on my way to work this morning just cruising at about 50 down regular mile roads with a speed limit of 45, and a see a clean navy trans am fly by going 55-60. Ive never seen an aggressive ls1 driver in my area so i decided to investigate. i speed up and follow him through some traffic until we hit a light where i am 1st in the right hand lane and he is right behind me. So i hit it off the line and immediately get into the left hand lane to let him know its on. he gets up to roughly a carlength behind me and i hear him go WOT and gain at least half a car jump before i hit it as well. We started at around 30-35 and let off because of traffic around 90-95 with him somewhere between 2 and 3 full lengths ahead of me. as we hit a red light later i start talking to the guy (he was probably 20ish) and found out it was an auto 01 WS6 with full exhaust. He was a really cool guy and complimented my car (most camaros in my area are either V6 or really shitty condition V8's). He also pointed out that a police SUV on a side road saw us racing but decided not to bother giving chase. I was extremely relieved. We then went our separate ways with me going left and him going straight gracing me with his sexy sounding exhaust as he speeds away. I always knew LS1's were fast and have incredible respect for them, and this race pretty much backed up that thought.

he was probably taking a nap or doing paperwork. ive even seen em put a car on the side of the road and leave, the empty car there still makes everybody slow down.

Nice death, now to run an M6!

Nice run. There is plenty of potential left in the LT1 when built right.

Good race! I remember when i had my stock 1994 TA and then even after I started adding bolt-ons, I was shocked at how fast the LS1's were from a roll. Keep the mods coming and you'll be just as impressed with your LT1

The LT1 must be about 1 full second slower in the 1/4 mile than the LS1. My son put headers, CAI and 4.10 gear in his LT1 and the best it would go in the 1/4 was 13.22.

Your car has some potential though.

I bet if you looked at the average stock times the LT1's would be around 1/2 a second slower, and around 5 mph slower.

It's closer than some people think, I would say about 5-tenths difference at most between the two. A good comparison is a '96-97 Camaro SS which is a solid 13-second car, M6's averaging between mid to high 13's bone-stock at traps around 103-105.
