Anyone messed with new lightning?
One of my buddies just bought a new lightning, I'd say it won't take long before he changes to the smaller pulley and gains 6psi. I'v rode in it already and even with only 1200 miles on it it's pretty stout. I'm getting ready to buy a 99 or 2000 Z-28 6-speed. I was just wandering how worried I should be. I am planning to do all the freemods and add full length headers/loudmouth exhaust and a 125 horse shot if needed. Any info is appreciated.

I saw one run at the track. It had a smaller pulley. With slicks it was running 12.6x's consistantly. On street tires it couldn't get better than a 13.2x. You can see by my sig that I "can" beat one that has been modified, but if i was on the street it would be pretty much down to the driver and traction. If you do the mods you mentioned then you should beat him

I would say to beware of that bad boy once he gets some mods on it. I raced one about a month ago at the track. Brand new, pully and exhaust. No chip as he was waiting for a dyno tune. Both of us had passengers, too. I hate to admit, but I saw his rear. I don't have that many mods. Guy was running very low 13 and pulled one 12.9. I've got some LT's and a cam on deck, though. Can't wait to see him after install.

I don't know if it's where it is new or what but it hooks like a beast it came with 285-45-18's i think. he is a pretty good driver but I have plenty of experience too.

I raced a 2003 new lightning still with the paper plates about a year ago. In my 2002 Z28 M6 with at the time about 6000 miles with no mods just a crappy 80 series flowmaster. From a dead stop we were off the lightning was right next to me threw 1st and 2nd gear at the end of 2nd going into 3rd i started gaining on him, threw the end of 3rd I was about a car length ahead of him. I think when I was going about 130 mph I could see him completly in my rear view mirror. I probly had about 2 cars on him going about 130mph. I had a weak take off due to not wanting to burn the stock tires. Now I have a Cutout, Whisper Lid, and about to order Nittos or Bfg Drag Radials. I have heard he as modded his truck now. I might wait a while before I race him again. I have to admit they are fast trucks the have a excellent take off but the areodynamics of my Camaro helped me alot.

well i suggest you go with free mods to get some hp, but basics, like a good free flowing exhaust! never use a chokemaster! many other mods, just check all the others sections of this site, because everyone here is very knowlegable, and will help you out

they are impressive for trucks. Before I install my headers, !cats, xpipe, and offroad pipes I ran one at the track with pulley, chip, exhaust and drag radials. I was on street tires. I ran a 12.81 to his 12.80 .. he was at 104 and I was at 109.
I also ran an older one with drag radials, exhaust and nitrous and he was only running 13.1x's
