Default Heads/Cam CTS-V vs GTO

MMOB I was driving down 84 coming home with a friend. A Black CTS-V pulls up next to me and revs. Car was LOUD. We slowed down to ~35mph (no one was on the road). I honked it off. He spun a little, I dead hooked and pulled out about a half car. We stayed even until the top of third where I started inching out more. By ~120 I had about a car on him.

We pulled into hooters when we got up to the Pike and he showed me his setup. 5.7 with AFR heads, cam, FAST intake, injectors, headers, he said dual disk clutch etc. The car apparently made 435whp.

When I showed him my "Setup" he almost hit the floor. My car is essentially stock with headers/tune. I have pulled a few lb's out of it, nothing serious. I'd imagine it weighs around 3550 without me in it.

He was looking for nitrous, saying unless I was spraying 100shot there's no way I coulda beat him, but I did, and I don't spray. So who rly knows

something is wrong with his car, no way your inching out on a 118-120mph car with a headers tune GTO. He may also need to learn how to drive.

I highly doubt he traps 118-120. SRZ's car is around that same power, about 600-700lbs lighter and I would guess in the 119-121mph range.

lets see, stock V's are trapping 107-110 bone stock, add a solid heads/cam setup(AFR being the best) and gain over 100rwhp across the RPM range, thats good for 10mph. Either way he should have walked away from you hard even if it only trapepd 115 he should have put cars on you.

bottom line is he didnt so im saying he prolyl needs to take driving lessons.

very good assessment of what happened. i trap in the high teens and low 20's with good air, and my car is about the same weight as a V and it only has a baby cam in it with stock intake/tb.

not sayin you didnt pull him. just sayin either something is off with his car or he doesnt know how to drive. OR maybe someone put a H/C package on ur car while you were asleep. lol jk

Probably not... Considering my car has trapped 115.
IDK where these 110mph stock V's are (maybe ATCO in December) but from what I've seen in the real world they need a lot more power to go fast.

435rwhp and 3100lbs trapping 119-121mph? I would have thought a little higher but okay.

A stock V is a dead nuts driver's race for a stock LS2 from a roll.

Header/tune GTOs don't trap 115mph (even at ATCO) unless gears or weight reduction (is 200lbs enough?) so the other guy definitely couldn't drive. 115mph puts you into the "cam" class....

So where is it that you live? Cam goes in tuesday id love to show you how a cam only CTS-V runs with someone who can drive. Id also like to see a header only GTO trap 115mph, so with a cam/head setup you should be in the 130s from your calculations.

135 at least.
I'm in Connecticut If you wanna drive up here you'll have a nice 4-5 hour ride home to scratch your head and ponder your decisions.

Damn little toof ar, guess youll have to keep you ego up by racing non drivers in CT.

You also have a lot to learn if you think the V's are slow, especially from a roll.

Maybe you have a lot to learn about GTO's? Have you ever thought about it that way?

I know enough to know that header/tune only Gtos dont trap 115mph, and cant put cars on heads/cam V's(especially with AFR's).

I also know that your 200lb weight advatange doesnt make up for the 80ish rwhp advantage of the V.

He made 435whp, I made 385whp. His car is 3900ish with 19's or 20's or whatever V's come with, mine is ~3550 with 17's.

I really dont know where 200lbs and 80whp comes from. I made within 80whp of 435 bone stock... I think you do need to learn a few things because right now you're way off.

they come with 18s, with his mods it should be a 460+rwhp car, ill be making 410 with a cam, stock manifold and long tubes. Doubt he only picked up 25 from a FAST intake and AFr's. Something is wrong with his car no point arguing. He should have pulled you and he didnt, so your car is faster.......Only reasons is because he cant drive and something is wrong with his setup..

I thought my car was faster because it was faster...
Everything is should be this, should be that. I saw what I saw lol, it wasn't what it "shoulda" been but that's how it was.
