Default Friends '11 5.0 vs My lt1 vette

Friend of mine now has a black 5.0. He bought it 2 weeks ago and I ran into him last night in my lt1. He bought the 5.0 with the track pac. So, I had to run him of course.

Little back ground on the lt1. Its a '93 with H/C/I that runs, with slicks, 11.7-11.9@117-118. But this night, I was on street tires. We go from 25mph, both spinning(him more than I). I pull a car and a half through first and by 100, I'm out by 3 1/2. So we find some better pavement that was just laid a week ago in an industrial park. Again from 25mph. We both just chirped the tires a little on launch. Same ending with me still pulling on him to 100.

We tried from a dig but with his cookie cutters and my street tires, it just wasn't happening. Earlier that night, he ran a LS2 vette and lost by a car to 90mph from a slow roll(the C6 owner said he was stock).

He's not to impressed with the new 5.0. He had a 04' cobra that was lightly modified, wrecked it, and bought the 5.0. He said his cobra was much quicker. Even when stock, he said the cobra might have took the 5.0.

um, i would think his stock cobra WOULD have been close to the 5.0...i mean they both trap around 110-112...i wouldn't be too dissapointed. bone stock car vs. h/c/i/ 5.7...thats just me.

i'm pretty impressed with them. almost the same hp as the new camaro and 400lbs less.

more hp than an ls1 with less cubes. as much as an ls2 with once again, less cubes. and just a little less than an ls3 with less cubes.

nice race!

No offense, but your friend sounds kinda dumb... of course a stock Cobra and a stock 5.0 would be interesting. Cobras have actually run faster stock than '11 GTs. And he's disappointed about barely losing to an LS2 Corvette? Really?

AFR 180cc comp heads, 503 cam w/1.6s , ported intake and bolt-ons. This is on a stock bottom end and shorty headers through cats. Its a pretty modest setup nothing radical.

The C6 was an auto, with I believe a 2.73 rear? With the "internet times" he was hearing for the 5.0 w/track pac, he was expecting to run even if not ahead.
His cobra, when stock, was right with the stock C6 LS2s.

I imagine even auto LS2 Vettes run ~12.5... I wouldn't feel too bad if my brand new Mustang lost by a little.

Good kill.

ZOMG EvolUTion PerfORmance! What did they do again? Havent heard about it........ Interesting. All other average Joes and even non-average Joes on the street are ending up with predictable results, just like everyone said they would. I'm sure there are many a new 5.0 owner praying to the gods of Evolution Performance to bestow upon them the power to run 10s and 11s and all that other stuff they wont be doing for the next 4+ years.

are you saying they did something magical that anyone else modifying their cars can't do? i'm reading the article right now, it's all bolt on's simple garage tools and a jack or two... there is no unicorn installed under the hood.

Im saying they did it. WOW! Lets keep posting it every single time a 5.0 loses. Average joes arent going 10s and 11s with bolt ons. Whether they did it or not is insignificant to me because the actual guy on the street I'll be lining up against isnt some super man east coast air shop on bigs and littles with who knows what. He'll be a normal guy with an intake and a catback on stock tires and his *** will get tugged.

So my point is, LS1Tech Ford guys, save this constant posting of Evolution. All I read about the 5.0s on every board is about them getting beat or pulling even, or winning by a car against similar modded GMs. Not this super man 10 second rape **** everyone tries to put over on us because one shop has gotten overly famous for it.

Watch my videos. Watch me take on H/C/I/E cars with good drivers with my bolt on setup then run your mouth.

I may have been wrong, but the way you typed it sounded almost like you were hoping to not meet a 5.0 with a good driver. can't knock you just the way I took it in... "yea they ran fast but that doesn't matter because people on the steet, average joe, won't so i'll be ok"

nah mean jelly bean?

What do they consider 'bolt-on'? There is no way a 5 liter engine will pick up 14mph without internal engine work or boost. The mustang will need at least an additional 150hp to run 126mph from the way it sits stock.

Direct from article:

upper & lower control arms
zex nitrous kit 100 shot
steeda CAI + tune
LT headers, x-pipe + mufflers
bogarts skinnies front, 15in bogart wheels rear
M/T 28x12.50x15in DOT et street tires

Sounds bolted on to me nothing internal or crazy there "joe" can't do in his garage, would you agree?
