Dear Lord, another 11' 5.0 thread as well as a 10' Camaro SS LS3 vs my MS4/FAST Z28!
Ok guys, i have yet another 5.0 Mustang thread. Lets not get this one locked.
As i was leaving my apt tonight to go to the club, i pull out and an 11' 5.0 6spd immediately pulls up beside me and starts lunging at me to race. I have my 250lb passenger yell out the window, "Hold up, the car's still cold." I have to let my valve springs warm up and it was only at a 1/4 temp at the time.
Anyways, he yells for us to turn and follow him and low and behold, behind him is a 2010 Camaro SS which ended up being a LS3 6spd (They were together). Both NICE cars. So to the good parts:
In all races i let BOTH cars have the jump each time but i did gear my A4 down so i was ready (no auto downshift lag) because i knew they were stock and I'd beat them. I ran the 5.0 3 times. First was a 30-80 and i put 2-3 cars on him. Second was a 20-90 and i put roughly 4. Third was a 40-90 and i got 2ish?
Next up was the 10' Camaro SS. We did a 10-80ish and thats just plain nasty for my car. I put about 4 lengths on him once i shut down. We then did a 30-80ish and to my surprise, he held decently. Id say i got roughly 2-3 cars. I only had two runs with the Camaro.
We pull into a gas station and come to find out they are both BONE stock. The 5.0 only had 1,000ish miles on it and was the standard version with cloth interior, however it was the 6spd. The 10' Camaro was a LS3 6spd and he said hes been to the track multiple times and always traps 112-113 CONSISTENTLY.
I was honestly VERY impressed with both cars to not vanish in my mirror because i'm pretty modded. However, all of these runs were on MOTOR only. No nitrous whatsoever. Also if i didnt have the passenger, didnt let them have the jump, and went for a much longer race, it wouldve turned bad. But I wanted to make it fun and thats what happened.
I asked how the two faired against each other and they said theyre pretty much even. Whomever gets that bit of a jump holds a half car-ish. When they have good starts they say neither one creep on the other. I thought the 5.0 would be a little faster than the SS but thats what they agreed on. They were both awesome rides and i love the new 5.0s so much. Sorry Bowtie boys but I'm no brand loyalist and if i had the money, id LOVE to have one.
I had my passenger record a vid but he only got one from the SS and one from the 5.0. I will do my best to get the vids from him. For now, i took the initiative to snap pics of each at the gas station for somewhat proof although i doubt there will be any naysayers given my mods. I was honestly very impressed with both of them seeing that they are both stock and didnt do all too bad against me. Heres the pics.
Also, for anyone too lazy to look at my sig, my mods for this run are as follows: MS4 cam, FAST 90/90, Hooker LT's, TD's, no cats, 411 gears (A4 so VERY steep), TCI 4000 stall, SLP lid, supporting mods and 28" MT DR's that hook like GLUE.

Nice writeup and good kills. I'm a bit surprised that the SS and 5.0 were even against each other though. I would have surmised the 5.0 would pull a bit on the SS. Was the 5.0 the infamous "Track Pack 3.73 gears" setup?

Good question but i didnt ask him. Maybe someone can chime in as to whether they come standard in 6spds or if its 3.31s with a 373 option. He got the bottom of the foodchain 5.0 6spd. If its an option, i know he didnt add it because he said he tried to get one as cheap as possible and i would assume he wouldve mentioned a gear ratio upgrade. I'd definitely assume the 6spds are faster (esp from a roll) than the auto 5.0s in the other thread.
I thought the same as you, but that means that stock 5.0 traps 112-113 just like the SS and thats damn good IMO for stock cars.

No and I'm so mad about it, too. I initially bought these Prostars from a guy who just had regular 28" street tires on them and i would literally spin at anything below 60 on motor. I just got the MT DRs about two weeks ago and Zmax's last TNT was about three weeks ago. They supposively have one makeup TNT coming up so when and if they do that, I'm definitely taking it. Im hoping LOW 10s on the juice.

Those are the 2 cars I would love race next! I'm not surprised of the outcome, but 112-113mph stock cars are no joke! I always thought 10' SS and new 5.0l were pretty dead even...
I'm waiting for all the 5.0l faboys to get in and say its impossible that an LS3 SS is hanging with it.
Nice race!!
