What Happened to me?

What Happened to me?
This is kind of a stupid question, but here goes. I have a 2000 Trans Am, A4, I have an after market hood, WS6 lower air-box, high flow airfiler, LS1 motorsports lid, smooth bellow, 85mm MAF, hood sealed to airbox, deflector removed from hood. Oh, and Hypertech power programming. My question is, I was racing a guy in a 2001 Z28, he said it was stock other than an airbox and that it was an automatic. We hit it at the same time and he started to pull ahead, maybe a foot or so. Then he wanted to run from a 35 mph roll, and he shot out about half a car length in an instant and as soon as my A4 quit stalling I stayed about a half a car length behind the whole time. Now I know it wasn't stock, or could it have been? I am wondering what your thoughts are about if it was stock how he could do that to me.

Well, you arent all that far from stock... Plus, your car is a bit heavier. Also, some cars come out of the factory having a LITTLE more power than others. Thats what could have caused this, but you were pretty close to him.

His is an '01, meaning he has the LS6 intake. '01-'02 LS1s dyno about 10-15 rwhp higher than '98-'00 LS1s due to the intake. Add in that and the fact that every car is a little different, and that could give him his advantage. If he had a converter, he would have pulled a bit more than half a length on you from a roll.

Here's another idea... take off the HPP3 and see how you do. Some people actually lose power from it.

The mos you have done probably wont give you more than .1-.2 at the track, and his LS6 intake would more than cover your little air mods. Get a converter in that car and some exhaust.

Along with the LS6 intake the '01's and '02's have smaller cam profiles for more low end torque. I used to wonder about this too. Stock for stock they will always get the jump.

Along w/ the LS6 Intake....I'd chuck that piece of **** 85mm MAF. Reasoning for it is that most actually lose power w/ it. Everyone I know has either had a higher et and/or lower trap speed with the 85 vs. the stock one.
I have been told that the partial throttle response is increased, as it should, but the WOT performance suffers.

Some cars run alittle stronger than others. One thing NOBODY has said is do you go down to 1st? Maybe he did, Its the latest you can for 3.23 gears.AND if he had 2.73 gears and you were in 2nd he would pull you. He would be in the fat rpms in 1st gear and your at 3400.
