Default Pulley cobalt ss vs cam ls1

In the red corner:

2006 cobalt ss

pullied to 14 psi, Full exhaust, intake, tune, clutch

Blue corner:

1998 formula

Full exhaust, Full intake, stock ls1 intake, small cam, stall, gear etc.

This guy pulled up and tossed my buddy a rev. We told him follow us a bit and we would grab my car as well ( the formula ).

We all roll out as a group. Buddys car is a 98 camaro with bolt ons.

He wants a first gear roll at 25. I agree. We get a pretty clean hit and i jump out pretty hard. After about midway through second i put about 5 on him and let out around 100.

We do it one more time with pretty the same results.

On the way back he wanted a higher roll so we did 45. We launch clean again and he held for about a second or so and then i pulled about as hard as before.

I actually thought he would hang around better...

Anyone raced a similar car? I thought he would keep up.

Sound's right, the supercharged cobalts aren't impressive. Bolt ons + a pulley isn't going to pull a cammed LS car even baby cammed.

I just thought he would keep up better. From a dig it would have been HORRIBLE.

That sounds right. The SC Cobalts aren't all that impressive.

Does anyone have an idea of what a Cobalt with those mods would be putting down?

Well then the Formula was probably putting down over 100hp more than the Cobalt. Thats enough to cancel out the Cobalt's weight advantage and then some.

I wouldn't expect the Cobalt to have hung much more than he did... if you can call that hanging.

Sounds like the same result with me on current mods (Sumitomo tires to boot) and a friends 06 Cobalt SS w/ short throw, heat exchanger, CAI, exhaust, GMPP Stage 2, 2.8" pulley upgrade, clutch, and tune.

He was talking **** to me the whole time and even with my 3600 stall and POS street tires I let off at about 5 cars ahead and was still pulling. From 25, 30, 40, and 45mph rolls I would still pull 3-1/2, 3, and 2 cars consecutively

The new turbo LNF's are no joke though

I disagree. I don't know exactly how much those things weigh, but I would guess they have a significant weight advantage over an Fbody. If you have a 260hp Cobalt vs a 300hp Fbody, I would imagine it would be somewhat close with the Fbody having a slight advantage.

Motortrend rates them (the SC 06's) at 1/4 in 14.4

My buddy managed a 14.2 out of his with a catback. On cobaltss.net (I am a member there also), the best time for a stock SS/SC recorded is a 14.06 @ 99.34mph. Best time recorded for a stock LNF turbo is 13.56 @ 104.35mph

Considering LS1's are generally mid to low 13 second cars, thats a win either way.

It would be interesting to see how you would do against a tune only T/C cobalt.

Good kill! There was one around here that was modded up similarly and I think he made 245-250ish.

Yeah I've beaten a SC Cobalt in my stock 2v if that says anything. Never ran a turbo one however. 14.4/2 seems about right.

He kept revving at me, I thought it was a stock Cobalt at first, then I saw the SS and revved back. It was actually a close race. At best, I had over a car on him. Most of the time it was a half. Had it been warmer, who knows. I wasn't hooking up that well.

I second that. While the ls1 goats are not that much slower in the 1/4 on average, off a roll it is a different story.
