Default Bolt on Z28 vs Bolt on 06 350z

I'm in the far lane (or the guy trailing) Buddy of mine, Both Autos, he has PopCharger Intake and Plenum Spacer, as I have....a whole lot of ****. Now firsty race we ever ran, he was stock, as I just had CAI and Muffler delete. We were even the whole way through, week later, tried again on the free way from a higher roll and he just ran away from me ugly. Now months and months later we try it again.. first race with my headers and exhaust just put in, untuned. stock wheels , stock 3.23 gears I thought I was gonna do ALOT better...... rolls from 20, I slip both times. I'm happy and disappointed at the same time :\

What do ya'll think?

2 autos and no digs?

I wouldn't be too disappointed, I mean you own an LT1 not an LS1, so your numbers with your mods will be very similar to what this 350z is making.

3.23 gears are the better factory gears for autos, nothing to be mad at there. 2.73 gears are absolute turds. The best mod you can do, being an auto, is a converter. It will totally wake up your car. Id definitely do that before getting gears (or anything else).

I'm too scared to blow the rear..it's held up on digs but I'm skeptic now. he pulls me in 3rd just like 'stangs do... he gets the jump from the start, then inches up in third SLOWLY but still pulls...

Autos can make muchhhhhh more power than a 6 speed before they blow the 10 bolt. My 99 Z28 (6 speed) blew it up stock. Then there are 10 second autos still on the 10 bolt. You'll be fine, especially with street tires on the street.

Yep, stick can be too jarring on the 10bolt where as auto is always loaded. However, I have auto and my 10 bolt started getting some backlash after doing bolt ons and suspension work along with 315's in the rear. I think it had most to do with the thicker rubber and torque arm putting to much stress on the rear end. the s60 is doing just fine now.

Weld your axele tubes on your rear and run a girdle-you'll be fine. I have hundreds of passes on mine and the sixtys were always in the 1.6s.
Get some more mods and wax that Nissan

Nice runs, looks like you need to get some more mods and a rematch. I say DR's and a stall. After that it should be no problem yanking him from a dig.

He's got that no slip posi, he still gets a jump on me from rolls. I would believe I'm making more power then he is as bolt on 350's don't make much with bolt on's. but I'm just not getting it to the ground and I'm slipping. I also need a tune. His car has got good mid range and high rpm power. maybe some suspension mods, rubber, and a tune?

late last year he ran a 13.7 was his fastest time in the 1/4. I've never tracked my car yet but I will when I get everything set up.

With your mods you should be doing better than a 13.7 car.

Throw a girdle on it, weld axle tubes as said above, get some Nitto 555R DR's, 3.73's, and 3600 stall and you'll have a fun street car that will surprise a lot of people from a dig

You have about the same mods as the z28 i had for my wife. Her best time was a 13.4@104.3.. i had a 350z(when it was na) with the same mods(6spd though) that ran a 13.4@104.7. So they can be very competitive.

wow auto LT1's are so much slower than m6's.
350z's don't have a chance from a dig or a roll. race him where you're stronger, as in from a dig not a really low roll

Only reason I don't run him on digs is because he has a no-slip posi, he'd easily pull me a car from the jump anyway, he'd probably get me 2 cars + from a dig. Especially from his pull in 3rd.

What are you talking about, you have a posi rear as well, and LT1s are great at low end torque, where he is weak. If you launch half way decently and don't blow the tires off you should rip pull him from a dig and never look back...

An LT1 auto's strongest point is from a dig, you of course have to launch the car properly but still...

yeah exactly what i was thinking too. LS1 guys hate racing LT1 cars from a dig just because of that linear, large torque curve that makes it a cinch to launch. And ironically, his 350Z is the high reving engine that takes more skill to launch half way decently.

So what you are really saying is that you have no skill whatsoever at driving?

I just put that bitch in D, preload it, and just jump or roll on the gas, I've always lost the jump on a dig, I haven't learned to go 1-2-D. I just let the car do it...i'm sure it makes a difference but I just let the tranny do it. I know the car has got a posi. but only one side is hooking and then it throws it over, by that time i hook with both, they have a car up.
