98 LS2 SS vs H/C/I Foxbody vs LS1 Z28 *vids*

Talked to a few people and a post was post up on Facebook about a meet, went out to see who all would come, considering it was like 30* out. Good turnout, except it was mostly 15-18 second cars. LS3 Grand Sport and a guy I know '12 5.0 were the fastest cars there, but my buddy hasn't really got to line up against anyone with his new car (98 SS) so we just tried to find some decent races.

Cars with mods-

98 SS- auto, LS2 swap, lid, LS1 intake manifold, longtubes, dumped Y pipe, 3.42 gears, tuned

Z28- auto, exhaust, don't know what else?

foxbody- 4 speed manual, 3.73s, edelbrock intake, trickflow heads & stage 1 cam

08 GT- 5 speed, JLT intake, Offroad X pipe,Violator mufflers, SCT tune, 4.10

Damn that Fox was SLOW.
GT got rapped too but that was to be expected.

Nice vids

That fox body was horrible.

WSsick 12-09-2011 10:52 AM

Supposedly it used to have a blower on it but he didn't say anything about it being low compression so who knows.

looked right for that fox body. Things are slow as hell for the most part, unless it's completely gutted with steep gears and a very well thought out build. I mean, whats a normal trap for a full weight typical head/cam foxbody? 106mph?

My very very basic H/C/I 95 with the stock uncut shortblock ran 110mph with 3.08 gears. I put 3.73 gears in and didn't see much of a gain because of the shitty powerband. It was done at 5,000rpms. I had a Performer intake on it which I think was the bottle neck. Who knows... I do plan to build a notchback 5.0 sometime with a stock shortblock 302 and see how fast I can get it.

Any idea which heads and intake on the fox?

I've never been a fan of the TFS packages. A large part of the foxboy world is stuck on the same setups that are in no way optimal.

WSsick 12-09-2011 07:27 PM

All he told me was that it was Trickflow heads and an Edelbrock intake, nothing more.

Stopsign32v 12-09-2011 07:30 PM

High ports and a RPMII on a stock 302 would do great.

Thats very true. Why in the world do guys run P heads, huge cams etc now days with the knowlege...

I went 109-111 MPH traps with heads, cam etc and I too went with a bigger cam and slowed down

Exactly. Or 70mm on a H/C/I 302 let alone a 347? Regardless theyre stuck on cam profiles from the early 90s anyway

God other mistakes I made back then I can remember when I was n/a..

Going with Cobra EEC-lost a tenth and a MPH
Going to E cam to F-lost a tenth and MPH
24lbers on a n/a car
Porting my 65TB(see your example above lol)
Not getting my car tuned-thinking adjusting timing and fuel pressure was enough
Undergeared(ran 355s for years-then gained an easy tenth and MPH swapping to 410s)
Running GT40 crap(in the begging thats all you had though)

If I knew now when I had the car n/a I could have ran high 11s easy on motor with stock shortblock, rims and all swaybars on the car

88blackgt 12-10-2011 10:43 AM

Haha ya. Even that GT40 stuff can be made to run ok. Jay Allen did a great job w/ unported GT40 heads; ran 11.50 or so w/ a cam, maf, tb, gear, exhaust. That was back in 05 even, not sure if he kept going with it. I know his goal was 10s on stock shortblock and unported gt40 irons.

sounds like a waste of money to me lol

BOBS99SS 12-10-2011 11:06 AM

i had a 5.0 years ago , ran pretty solid back in the day for just some bolt ons and a blower

however fast you think you can go with 500whp and a shitty powerband.

Explain?

s346k 12-10-2011 01:13 PM

what is there to explain? i know you've seen some 302" dynographs. without HUGE support from a drivetrain, those engines are helpless.

88blackgt 12-10-2011 01:31 PM

Lol ok

Mike Morris 12-10-2011 03:52 PM

I went 10s with a stock shortblock 5.0 on DRs,pump gas, stock rims, working ps and ac, and all sway bars on. They can run well-aftermarket is insane for those cars
