Default An Honest 06 GTO vs 5th Gen SS Race

This race was done on 4 Dec 2011

Me on 89 Octane too. Yeah just for back and forth to work fuel..

This morning at about 5:30, I was heading down Grand Ave when a dark colored 5th Gen SS Camaro pulled up and we were messing around and got stopped at a light. When the light turned green, I lightly let out to not spin due to it being damp. Well for almost a half mile I was about a car and a half in front but then he started to gain. So I would have taken the 1/4 mile racing this guy. We were hauling *** too. A win depending how long we were going to race for I guess.

Im not sure what my car will trap but Im pretty happy with this win.

Good kill, honestly if I use low octane I have audible pinging going on. Not sure if it's a valid excuse but the car doesnt perform as well.

how much do you save by going to 89 octane? $1.50 per fill up? is even that worth it?

Computer lowers the performance if using less than premium fuel.

Cant comfirm it myself but ive been doing this for years. I drive farther with 91 octane then i do with 87 to a full tank. Meaning i get more miles to a full tank on higher octane and to me comes out to be the same as far as cost.

I get the knock and perceived performance but I guess it is an "my cars not at its best" like bald street tires, bad tune, heavy sub in trunk, etc.

Its an excuse imo. A crutch, A fallback.....IF I was on my 93 tune, I would have been in beastmode

Yeah sounds like an excuse man. So with that in mind put good gas in it and quit making excuses. he may have running on diesel fuel, have a family of illegal immagrants in the trunk, a huge cast on his right foot, no nawz and took all his stickers off that morning (50 hp).

With an l99 you should be defending that excuse. Lol. When the l99s came out and were running high 13s wasn't it because the dealerships put low octane in them? (hence the fuse pull fix)??

U are correct. Most people still don't know about that. I defend no excuse.....lol. it does make a difference tho. On the l99s that's like a 6-9* reduction in timing. May car stock was 1 sec faster 0-100 on the datalog after the fuse pull. Anyone who tunes for low octane is leaving power on the tabke, but should be throwing their low octane tube out as a disclaimer...lol.

Valid point. Lol, it technically is my fault if I'm dumb enough to have low octane gas in and initiate a race. No different than racing with an empty bottle and whining about it when I lose.

Dont put shitty gas in and no excuse needed. If you lose on the shitty gas tune dont say anything about it, run what u brung. Im sorry guys seems like everytime i read about somebody losing a race there is a "reason" for it. Cant be the other guy has a faster car/better driver.

For people that dd their cars they could have different set-ups. I have 3 different sets of wheels (all dd-able but work better for different things) I used through out the year, right now my winter wheels are on and don't really look for runs. Besides the road gets to cold and dirty to race on. Do you dd your Mustang? ?? or Do you drive a "beater"?

There is also a difference between reasons and excuses. I personally always look for reasons so I can figure it out and make it better.
