Default Nitrous G8 GT vs Vortech FRC from a dig

A few of us were hanging out yesterday, enjoying the great weather (it was supposed to rain all day, so you can't beat that), and my friend asked if I'd run him from a dig. He just got MT drag radials and has been looking for dig runs, but not many cars were out. I told him hells yeah and we went out to make it happen.

Bear with me as we weren't planning on filming the runs, so you'll have to take what we could get, lol.

His car is a very clean FRC with a Vortech T-Trim, Corsa Catback, and Mickey Thompson drag radials. It put down 513 rwhp on Slowhawk's Mustang Dyno:

We raced three time, all dig runs. The first was with no passengers and I got out on him off the line and held him off until about 95 mph, where he cranked by me. My friend got that race from a parking lot off the strip:

The second race wasn't caught on video, but we lined up 3 wide on the highway with PSM making up the third on his bike. PSM murdered me and the vette pretty badly. The vette got a good launch and we were side by side for a couple gears and then he started running away hard.

The last run was caught on video from in my car:

Obviously I was spraying for all races, lol. He's hoping to get the vette to the track soon. We all had a blast and are hoping to set up more runs in the near future

Still nice seeing the unassuming grocery getter run side by side with a blown Vette for awhile

Thanks guys. This car is so easy to launch from a dig it's almost criminal. I do need to get a stall and a bit more gearing so it comes out harder and the nitrous kicks in sooner.

It's funny to me how much louder and meaner it gets when the nitrous kicks in from a dig.

Yeah when I race from a dig or very low mph, there's no question when the nitrous kicks on, lol.

What gear options are available for G8's? Do you then have to worry about weak rears? Stock is 2.92, right? What stall are you thinking? Nasty car regardless

I was going to do a 3.45 rear out of a 2010+ M6 Camaro, but now I'm thinking 3.27's out of an A6 car. I'll probably get a stall in the 2800 range. Mild, but better than stock.

I wouldn't get a converter unless its atleast a 3200. After a week of driving you will be used to it and wonder why they dont come stock with one haha.

I had a 2800 stall in my old LT1 and it was great for driving everyday. Not the best performer at the track, but that's not the purpose of this car. They are never exact anyway, so 2800-3000 is probably the range I'll be looking at. I was originally going to keep the stock converter.

I vote a 3000 if they have it.

I wouldn't even mess with the gear. Get the SS3200. Converter > gears, everyday of the week. A 3200 will be very tight around town especially in an A6, probably won't notice it, but it'll be worth it when you put your foot down! Shane is wanting to step up to a bigger stall, so if you want a good deal on one I'm sure he'll sell it at a nice price. He ran pretty much your exact setup before so he can tell you about the converter as well if you'd like to message him.

Shane is still on the stock rear, among many other stock parts, and probably damn close to 700rwhp now. The bias ply tire definitely makes a world of a difference though. Another local has a TT G8 and on all stock parts, but doesn't hit the track nearly as much as Shane.
