Oh yeah def. Back then honda had nothing in the U.S. From what ive seen honda's Don't need a turbo to beat a basic Gt40, alphabet cam, bolt on mustang, just needs the right swap with bolt ons.
My good friend actually owns an "aluminum gt40p heads" (Not sure wtf that meant at the time) A "nitrous" cam, gears, no a/c, no p/s, carb, electric water pump, LT's, exhaust, tubular k member, big and littles, kirkley seats, and a buncha stuff and the car pulled a fender on a bolt on pump gas srt4 from a 20 roll, srt4 spun like crazy and mustang let go top of 4th.
Given what was considered fast back then certainly isn't the same as now. Same goes for 2 decades ago.
His car is the first real domestic i rode in that made me want a RWD v8 car.

I would like to have a 91/92 305 5speed tpi car.....or a 350 tpi car with a 6 speed swap. Maybe one day I'll get dads. He still has that car. It's been garage kept and only has about 25k miles on it. It's pretty much perfect.

Their good engines....torque monsters. Think about it like this. They put up a real good fight with the much lighter fox body, year to year they were back and forth with later tpi's having a edge stock for stock. TPI swapped into a fox with the weight and the 8.8 and the tpi would *** stop that 5.0. Or you could be like me and just make the Camaro almost as light as the fox, but with a much better chassis.

Anyone know record times for either car in stock form?
Hey Mike, how fast did you get your cars to go with just bolt-ons?

I don't remember the 5.0 having much for high rpm. Those things were out of breathe @ 5000....that's not high rpm...and comparable to the tpi cars. There were things you could do to the intakes to help them out, extrude honing worked pretty well and l98 heads were far superior to the ford head.

Go back and look at Mikes cars on the previous page. It took his 5.0 ported heads and a cam to run the same times as the bolt-on Formula. Now we're talkin same mechanic, same driver and style of modding with him leaving his cars stock appearing. That's about as good a comparison as you can get.
