Default Bolt on Trans Am VS bolt on 2V Mustang

I've had my Trans Am for about a year now. Finally have it where I want it and it runs and shifts right. This was a race with my best friend and his mustang.

ME: '99 Trans am 6 spd: has SLP lid, 4.10s, longtubes, catted 3" true duals, Nitto 555.

HIM: 2000 Mustang GT 5 spd: 3.73s, muffler delete, minor suspension work. Handheld tune, street tires, driver mod.

1st run:
2nd gear roll @20ish. 1-2-3 HONK! We both dead hook even in the cold weather and it's on! As soon as we're off I started a steady pull. Shifted at 6K into 3rd, 5600 into 4th. Had about a car on him at 90 and let off since the point was made. A solid kill!

2nd run:
2nd gear roll, high RPM start @4k. He pulled a fender on the hit, I slowly creeped up and put a fender on him by about 80, had to let out due to road conditions. Much closer race, but a wins a win!
2nd run video: Trans Am vs Mustang GT: http://youtu.be/wRGytmMg8us

We both knew the almighty LS1 had more power, but I have literally never taken my car to redline since I've owned it due to transmission issues and my granny driving style. He has been banging gears for years. I'm proud of how I kept my own and never botching a shift, shifting at proper RPMs, etc.

He took a handheld gopro vid, will see how it looks when he sends it to me later!

Nice....it's cool when friends can run, and not get all hurt about it. How you like those 410's?

You could definitely put more on a 2 valve with those mods. Keep practicing and get your driving down, I bet you'll rail him next time

It was 30something degrees. 1st Gear we woulda spun. We both started in 2nd so it was an even "handicap" not being deep in the powerband.

And the 4.10s are awesome, really peppy gears. A bit much sometimes around town but 4.10s aren't THAT steep.

Yes I know I should have put a couple cars on him, this was my first run in a stick, and taking it at redline at that LOL (too many transmission issues since I got it). I'm not a seasoned racer, we all gotta start somewhere.

Totally agreed. Your fbody bone stock should have done better then that, with your mods it should have been at least 6+ cars on him. I hate to say it, but for what the stang driver did with his inferior setup I would credit him with a 'win' in my book. If you had changed cars, I'm betting on him (driving your car) beating you (in his car) by a dozen plus car lengths.

Take your damn car to redline on a regular basis. Know it, learn it, make full throttle shifts a habit that doesn't require any thought to perform. I'm not saying thrash on your trans, I'm saying acquire the feel of the flexing linkage, meshing synchros, and clutch release/engage points during a fast shift under load so that your body incorporates that feel and motion into it's natural repertoire of motions. << You'll know you are "there" when internally you think of the entire sequence as one item, not three items strung together. Sorry, it's hard to explain exactly, but you will know what I mean when you get there.

Good run and it sounds as though you drove your car just fine considering it's your first time racing a stick car. Keep practicing though and you will improve over time.
Make sure you post up the vid when you have it. I'd be interested to see it.

Edit: BTW, your car in your sig looks clean.

Maybe 2v has more mods than what he is saying? But I would figure the lsbros would have no problem against the underpowered 2v. Good kill though op!

Agreed with others. I beat multiple 2000 GT's badly back in the day with my old 93 LT1 z28. They have god awful top end.... With the LS it shouldn't even be close. Car looks great though!

Haha I'm not worried about a few people hating on the newbie.

Car doesn't have a proper tune, it was set to 11.5 A/F in the past and the shop that did the exhaust install leaned it out a bit.

I Will get a dynotune eventually, but it runs fine for now. The runs were a quick blast to 80-90 so it wasn't possible to put busses on him even if I pulled harder, they were short rolls.

It def made me want to get on it more! As soon as the damn rain stops pouring I'll be driving the car like it was meant to be driven

No one hatin on ya brotha. But I don't think the 11.5 a/f is in your tune. They are not that far off. You have something else goin on for it to be like that.

EDIT: I take that back. I see you're trying to get that post count up to either sale something or scam somebody. Too bad posts in the SRK don't count.

If it came off as hating I apologize, that wasn't the intent I think by any of us. It's just that a ls1 with your mods should easily have a full second on that gt in the 1/4. I was only asking if it was tuned or not because if not it should be, and if so then I'd probably have it looked at. I think all of us have spent a lot of money modding our cars and just want to see you get all you can out of it. I'm sure some of it is learning you car but something doesn't seem right with the outcome is all we are saying. You'll be fine with more seat time, just enjoy it.

Anyways nice car man and I think once you get a good tune on it you'll be good to go. Then go run him again and point your gopro backwards lol.
