C4 L98 vs C4 ZR1 LT5
No LS stuff and cars are slow sorry
I picked up an 88 C4 L98 auto this past year from a dude that needed money after talking to Irun11s and Ballpienhammer and have been DDing it. I have put close to 10K on it and have had nothing go wrong with it. Its very fun despite the ugly interior,terrible weather stripping and fixing some of the hacks from the prior owner. Only exterior mod is C5 Z06 wheels which I think look kick *** along with some King Kong size Mickey Thompson drag radials which I run full time and can't break loose at the track
Car has cold air(worthless I didn't do it),Hypertech Prom(worthless I didn't do it),adjustable fuel pressure regulator upped 5 psi,HIO ported plenum,HIO ported intake runners,HIO ported throttle body with air foil,Mid American crank pulley,160 stat,Mid American aftermarket Y pipe,test pipe replacing the cat,Corsa catback ,no screens in MAF and the drag radials. Best ET was 13.4 with low front tire(didn't realize it till after the run and had to leave track) and best MPH is 103.
Its not as fast as Hio C4 but thanks to Drag radials and tpi down here in Florida it has killed many faster cars light to light due to its ability to launch hard on the street and just go due to tpi. LS fbombs,stangs,Exotics etc.
Anyway I was coming back from Orlando to the coast(I live near near Lawhead and Redbird) and see a red 91 and up C4 behind me. I finally catch guy at the light after passing 95 exit and realize its a ZR1!!! I am thinking maybe guy would sell it so start talking to him. He tells me he is 600 horsepower and has a special chip in it ....ok. He says he would sell it for probably 50 grand(whaaaaatttt). I ask him what does it run. He says 200MPH. Ugh I meant 1/4 mile. He says he doesn't remember. I spot Goodyear F1s on the rear and think he is in some trouble( I had them on this car when I first got it-they suck for traction). Sure enough light turns green and he gets torched bad to next light. Once I hit 60 I stopped pulling but he couldn't make up ground. At next light he said he spun. I give him a bit of kick and he blows the tires off almost losing it while I pass him. Catch third light. He won't even look at me. He starts revving. Light turns green and I give him no kick and I am gone with another good launch. Let out at 80mph for the next light maybe 3 cars in front of him and he blows through it when it turns red. Oh well

Nice work! They don't drive themselves lol. We have a customer at our shop that has a c4 zr1 with the over head cam 5.7, iirc it's a 92? He rarely ever drives it, but he has let me take it out on test drives a couple times. It's a blast to drive and only has like 18k on it. And another customer has a c4 with a 4+2 trans in it. I love those cars with that super low torque

The low end torque of the L98 is deceiving. When you first floor it, it throws your head back from a dig. But it's like really drunk sex, you're waiting for the climax but it never comes, then afterwards you realize the best part is when you first started.

True. They feel much faster than they are. I drive Fordgirlgonebad LS and it doesn't feel as fast when in reality its a good 4 tenth 5 MPH faster. But its perfect for down here at the beach light to light. Miniram,gears and stall can fix that problem in an L98.

Sounds like you deflated that guy's ego after the beating you gave him. I wonder what the outcome would have been if you took the launch out of the equation and did a roll.
BTW, I did not think the ZR1 was supposed to be 200mph car. Am I correct?
Oh, an older guy just moved next to me from Florida. He also has a DOHC ZR1. I hinted at him about running it against my car but he did not get what I was saying so I left it alone. Maybe one day, I will follow him out of the neighborhood and nudge him. lol

In other news, I've gotta be close to you guys...I'm around Altamonte, in the process of moving to Deltona just north of Lake Monroe. Sucks I don't have anything to race with though...the Z has the old combo in it and after sitting for 3 years runs like ****, and the bike is a bit much for most.
