Default TT 280Z vs 600WHP C6

I don't remember if I posted these or not.. Oldy but a goody. This was back when the 280 was a 6spd. This was a 15lb hit. We aren't sure if the bottle was hitting on this run. Doesn't look like it but then again that's how all the races looked against my old car.

280Z-
370ci
T56
62/65's
3100lbs
700ish wheel @15lbs

C6-
500 LS3 motor
T56
600 on the bottle

This was against an 1100whp switzer GTR. This was a 170mph pass. The tune was all jacked up on the hit here too.. We couldn't figure out why it bogged. You can juuust barely here it.

Hey man not trying to derail the actual thread but I have a turbo 408 SS that is a T56 car and it is starting to whine in first, second and third and I was wondering what info you could give me switching form a manual to an automatic. I have been fighting it because I just love driving a stick but I am thinking the car will be faster and hold up better with an auto.

Turbo LS and a glide is the primo setup. Can't beat a glide for the track and rolls. I wouldn't like it on the street though unless I was just trying to be king ****. The one shift and low rpm drone would drive me nuts. Car would have to be pretty quiet. Guys I know around here have turbo LS and their cars are loud and sound like **** at and around idle though. Yours may be set up different.

No doubt about it being faster and more reliable with a glide. I loved my glide and I loved the T56 too but IMO I would never go back the a stick car. The key is power vs. weight ratio and gear/tire selection. Get those categories perfect and a glide in the street is an absolute dream to drive.

I often laugh at all the BS comments I read online about how a glide isn't street friendly. 99% of those people have no clue what they are talking about. It's like anything else. Be thorough in your research and select the right components and you'll be happy.

Awesome thanks. When this T56 goes out and it sounds like it's on its way I am not going to rebuild it. Auto just seems the way to go with a turbo car.

I disagree 100% unless you are running straight pipes directed towards your face. I drove my car all over the place. It's been 8's, 180mph down the freeway and to the grocery store. I've had my exhaust dumped behind the front tires and out back like normal and it made no difference. On most turbo cars the exhaust noise isn't an issue until you hammer it.

Id say in my case (3000lb car, 3.08 rear gear and 26" tire) It is pretty comparable to say a 3400lb 3.27 28" tire car. As far as speed at X RPM. The real factor is power IMO. Having excessive amounts of it helps at ton when getting after it in low gear. Looking back on it, the glide was an absolute dream on the street and most of the time I had the Co2 turned off (500ish) daily numbers. I really never understood what all the BS hype about glide being bad on the street was about. I smiled from ear to ear every time I drove the car.

My car is a full weight 2000 SS with a 408 BW S480. Going to be running 16 to 18 pounds making mid 900s. Right now it has a 3.42 rear and I'm running a 26 inch tire. Will a glide be ok for it?

Massive difference. It does however require patience to get the converter right and deal with the little BS. One thing that kind of sucked to me was the fact that the converter has to be setup perfect. If you want optimal efficiencies up top you have to sacrifice a little down low. Meaning if you have the car on mid boost or low boost it won't be as enjoyable to drive. My converter selection was based on max kill and that's where I wanted to focus its efforts. It's a balancing act.

That was the cool thing about a stick car. You just pick your boost level and go. In order to really be efficient in a high HP auto setup you have to balance. Your slip % won't be the same at 15lbs as it will be at 25lbs if that makes any sense.

Going to be pretty high RPM on the freeway cruising at 70mph IMO. I would move to a 28" tire. My car would cruise around 3500rpm at 70mph on a 26" tire and 3.08 I had a GV OD so I could get that down to 2500 rpm if it wanted

Cool thanks for the info. I could drop ratios in my rear when I do the swap also do no big deal. My next set of rear tires will be 28 inches anyway.

There you go. Just takes time, patience and some $$. Once you get it figured out though.. It cannot be beat. The car just stays in boost ALL the time. It's a ******* animal man.

Ok well I'm sold then. The car has gone 10.80 @ 140 on a S476 launching in no boost. Sounds like it would go a full second faster with an auto.

Easily. My first pass was a 10.8 @ 143mph at 15lbs on the stick. 1.87 60' on no boost. One time I made a 12lb pass on the glide foot braking it and it went 9.6

And that was on 93! I wish I still had the video of me walking the 700whp SLC car. The damn thing weights 2400lbs. I left his *** standing still on only 21lbs and E85. This car just flat rolls out.
