Cathedrals are fine....worked 243 castings have made 550whp on a 416 ls3 block and ported Fast 102. More then enough head for 450+ whp with that cam. Send the 243's off to TEA or AI, get a ported Fast, put a good lifter and spring in it and let it spin.
I shift mine at 7k with a much smaller cam.

450whp is easily cathedral territory. ....unported at that these days. My buddy phil made over 450 back in 04 with gmpp 243 heads on a 346 with a ls6 intake. With what we know today and the parts available we could likely do 500whp on that same basic engine.

Should I just get my LS6 ported, or should I spend the coinage and get a fast. I'm kinda a tightwad...

07BlackSS, you seem to actually like your wife. You say she set the titty job aside so you could get the SS. If I were you, I'd simply get the car tuned, running correct so its not running rich and just enjoy it for as little cash as possible. And maybe set near future coin aside for her to enjoy and worry about upgrading go-fast parts for the car later on.
My better half currently would like to enhance her upper region and I would like to get another vette or Harley (she wants the booby job far more than I). Since the road goes both ways under my roof, I'll be banging bigger **** before I'm banging new gears.
Good run btw, even though it didn't go as expected. Thanks for posting.

Nice run, man! You were pulling good. If he did not jump you would have walked him up top, no doubt. I think a little more gear with a good tune and more rpm, you would walk him easily.
I run a 4.10 gear and shift at ~6800-6900 rpm. A 3.42 gear and shifting at 6500 rpms is not giving that motor a chance to show you what it could do.
