V6 Hyundai Genesis vs stock 94 Trans am
No vids but would love some input here:
So last night I took my GTP out, my buddy took his stock a4 LT1 out (has 15" Jegs wheels and dr's out back), and my other friend came out in his 95 Z28 m6 1sc. We met up with a few other guys in Hyundais out at our spot. One of them had a 2016 V6 with mid pipes and catback, ported intake manifold, modified air box, and a couple other things I think. The others were 2.0 turbo models with a few bolt ons. Long story short, I beat one of the turbo cars but lost to the rest. The one V6 Hyundai beat everybody. Now, I know that stock LT1's aren't fast, but I think we have a pretty good plan and I'd love to hear what you guys think. The trans am guy wants to be able to hold his own in almost any 1/8 dig race. I gave him a bolt on list consisting of:
CAI, ewp, 1.7 rockers, LT's, X pipe (dumps before the axle), 3600 stall, 3.73 gears, full suspension ( QA1 coilovers up front, BMR level 2 drag kit out back), catchcan (longevity reasons), LS1 driveshaft, and finally a plate kit and a 100-150 shot.
What do you guys think about those mods? I feel his car should be able to hold its own with a lot of cars after these

You're forgetting 2 important things.
Opti-spark(opti-fail) is a disaster waiting to happen. Then you have to tune it.
Don't know many that will tune the LT1 without LS1 coil conversion/ecm.
Might as well LS swap at that point

Opti gets a bad name. Yes, it was a poor engineering design and everything, but I noticed a spike in people blaming the opti for lt1 woes after a certain company offered knock offs ones and those tended to be the issue.
People replaced perfectly good oem optis with these Chinese knockoffs chasing down other issues.

When I was at the track last weekend a stock manual 2011 genesis actually lined up next to me. He ran 14.1@ ~100 IIRC. He was trying for 13s not sure if he ever got them. He thought my 11.8@121 was awesome and couldn't understand why I was disappointed lol. Not sure he understood 60ft
As for the lt1 advice not sure. I skipped over them ls1 was my first fast car

Yeah I figured the tune was implied lol I'm not gonna tell somebody to do all that untuned. I've talked with him about the switch to LS coils, he just hasn't made up his mind yet

No need for a lot of that crap to beat a stockish Genesis. They are pretty much a drivers race vs a healthy LT1, both run low 14s/high 13s. Of course if your friend has your typical 180k beat to hell LT1 that runs 14.5s, he will need more to keep up.
3200-3600 stall, intake, headers/exhaust, 1.6rrs, basic rear suspension (LCAs, relo brackets, TQ arm, sway bar), and a mail order tune. I ran 12.8s with the above mods on a 150k mile beat up LT1 back in 2005. Stock it was 13.9s so gained almost a full second with basically zero power mods. Still had stock shocks, stock gears, no EWP, no front suspension, etc. LS1 DS is a couple lbs lighter, but weaker then the LT1 DS and will twist at the drag strip with more then bolt-ons.
Skip the 1.7s if he plans to cam it, stock are only 1.5 non roller and 1.7s will need new springs. Then if you cam it, most SBC/LT1 cams are ground for 1.6rrs so you will need to spend extra on a custom cam, and STILL change the valvespring again.
Nitrous is way overkill unless he wants to be comfortably in the 11s.

I had one (brand new 2013 V6 manual) I bought new before my 14 Civic si as a dd. It was fast as **** for what it was and damn good on gas but definitely nothing to brag home about. I had several transmission issues with mine which warranty covered and I sold it and got the si (needed a fuel miser), never modded it but damn everyone wanted to race me in both of those turds lmfao.

He's thinking about picking a friends LS1. A mutual friend of ours is parting out his 04 GTO and is willing to let go of the motor for $1400. 94k miles on it.
But he really wants to stay true to the LT1 for more butt madz

Loctite on the screws that hold the rotor button in place and a barbed fitting with a hose in the weep-hole of the Waterpump housing, goes a long ways.

TunerPro is free. Definition file is free. $EEHack is free. Cable is $50. Probably can buy the cable for less if you shop around.
