Default LT1 supra vs 5.0

Just cruising the other night and ran up with a 5.0. We ended up doing a 2nd gear roll and went to about 90mph or so before we both let out. Sounded like he at some sort of aftermarket exhaust on it. We started out even until I started to slowly pull on him. Then my damn T5 locked me out of third and he pulled on me until I got into gear. Then I came back on him pretty hard. We let off right next to each other around 90. I wont call it a win, but not bad for n old tired LT1.

My car is untuned, with cc306 and ported stock aluminum heads. Also, I was shifting at about 5800-5900.

I may end up with a t56 when this T5 dies. Definitely staying manual though.

You're racing an untuned heads/cam car around?

Welp.

Also shifting his car at least 600rpm early. 306 is not the best NA grind for stock cubes .

Car will wake up a TON with dyno tune and proper shift points. 306 on stock cubes usually needs to be spun to at least 6700...even more with good heads.

edit: not saying to take a tired old stock shortblock to 6700rpm btw - will most likely wipe a cam bearing, especially on stock WP. The Opti and factory spline driven waterpump both put extra stress on the front cam bearing. Rod bolts wouldn't like it for too long either.

I may push the stock bottom end to 6400 or so but don't want grenade it before I have my spare engine built. Lol. I know, I know, it's not the best idea to run it hard untuned. I've got a wideband in the car and believe it or not the afr's are pretty decent through the rpm's. I know there's a lot more things to consider just saying that for being untuned it runs pretty good. Actually a little too rich at wot.
