I think the a8 is perfect because of the lt1’s low end torque is complimented by its gearing.
There is no issue with the 8l90 itself. There is however issues with converter shudder and that is do to the stock tuning. There are TCC slip tables for each gear where the TCM will slip upwards of 10% in lockup. Garbage for sure. Once you disable it, turn off AFM, then set TCC to not lock until 8th gear part throttle, it is a solid unit and shifts great. Oh and gots to get rid of the TM. 3-4 tenths reduction just in trans tuning on the 8l90.

I’m scared to run no TM all the time. My street tune is the same as my track tune besides TM.

Opinions vary.... do you think it will reduce tranny life having it off all the time ?

Oh sorry. I must have mistaken you for the guy that tells everyone that you've been to more tracks than anyone here.

I know a C7Z that's on it's 4th or 5th 8L90 now. First trans blew up on stock toon/power. GM refused to warranty once they found out it had been tracked (road course and strip) a good amount.

Then last year the diff blew out of it, dealership said warranty no probs. The work was completed and GM said hell no. lol

What about people who want a time slip or can't afford to go to jail because of their career family etc

Honestly no I don't. I mean I don't beat on mine all the time and if anything firmer crisp shifts will help the trans last. The slipping is what eats up the clutches. I am still on the stock 4l60e in my 4th gen. It's had a stall in front of it for 7yrs and H/C/I for over 3 seasons now....still going strong with 7200rpm shifts. No TM, manual shift kit, and cooler with proper tuning. I don't get any 2-3 flare shifts which kills them fast.

I’m gonna have to look over my tune and see if he’s made some of those changes. I know AFM is off

Thanks

I would not run on the street without torque management in the trans. At least track setup wise... Not recommended for the street driving, downshifting etc.

I have a completely separate track trans tune I load at the track

Actually lately I have been running 100% stock trans tune on the street while sorting some tune issues and datalogging. Looks like some driver demand.tq cooefficient tweaking is in order.

Surprising, because I have been told that GM honors the factory warranty if you do road course and track racing. As long as you don't modify anything. Track racing is what the car was built form and GM even pays half the cost of a 2 day Course at Ron Fellows School in Nevada. I plan to go in the spring. Fun Fun

Still tuning. Only a 1.76 60ft. But not like you know what it takes to go 10s.
