anyone familiar with challengers?

little run in with a challenger, never fully raced but he kept trying to get away from me, tried 3 times and after about 7 seconds or so i was ready to let off. then slows down and i can tell he wants to get next to me. so i pass him casually far left lane, he comes from the far right line to the middle and has his window down looking at me. then 2 seconds later hits it but it was an awkward spot in traffic plus sweeping turns with multiple bumps so again didn't get a chance to really pass him, but i guess he just wanted to see what was keeping up with his fancy car since he clearly wasnt planning on an honest race after seeing my headlights only getting brighter in his rearview not dimmer.

anyway, i dont get many opportunities to mess around in my area so pretty happy with the turnout, but just trying to figure out what type of challenger it was? id be sad if it was a regular v8 and not a scat pack. i did look and couldn't see any hellcat looking fender badges. it was semi quiet honestly, but it did have a light up triangle on the rear bumper if that helps. unsure if thats aftermarket tho. i was in my HCI 4th gen

Based on your story it's kind of impossible to say what it was. A 5.7, 6.1, or 6.4. Any other details on the car like badging or anything?

The only thing I can think of is that if he was keeping up with you at all and you are at 420+ rwhp, then it was most likely a 392 version. I had a 5.7 Charger and those modded out similar to your car would be at 440rwhp but also weigh at least 600 pounds more, so even that wouldn't have kept up with you and it would have been loud most likely. The 6.1 SRT8s were quicker than the Eagle head 5.7s but not comparable to the 6.4l. Kind of a middle ground. I'm thinking it was a stock 6.4l. I wondered how our cars with 400+ to the wheels would compare to a stock Scat Pack or SRT. I'm also assuming you are driving a LS1 Camaro or Firebird.

yea it was dark i looked specifically for badging and couldn't tell if something was there or not...... couldn't have been a hellcat thats all i do know. only thing was the triangle.

LS_ELKO41 10-05-2018 08:00 PM

I was looking for what you meant by light up triangle and couldn't figure out what you meant.

Floorman279 10-05-2018 08:02 PM

yea i made 460 with an m6 though a 9 inch.....he was in front and i read his mind all 3 times based off of traffic and the straights. i wasnt ever riding his ass, id say each time he was about 100 feet in front of me, he would get the half a second head start cause i let him, and after 3 seconds or so i was gaining then by 8-9 seconds id have to let off, feather, etc......

Funny how the modern Mopars are heavy,, but the old ones are light.. Compared to GM stuff..

They are absolute pigs for sure. My Super Crew Aluminum body F150 weighed not much more than my Charger.

That definitely looks aftermarket to me.

ok. yea wasnt sure if the scats got it or was

kinglt-1 10-06-2018 03:54 PM

Scat pack Challengers have the "bee" badge on the front fender. the 2015-present A8 cars run 12.4's stock. Good running cars even with their weight.

UltraZLS1 10-06-2018 05:33 PM

Have quite a bit of experience running Scat packs. Stock and lightly modded they are very close to a 6gen. About .2 and 2 mph slower same track same day. Once you get deeper into heavy bolt ons and further the gap grows. Partially because of the limited aftermarket. Stock with a tire they can hit an 11.9 in very good air

it wasnt new new, probably like a 2012.......guess i will never no

My buddy is a mopar guy. He has owned two 5.7 challengers (stick/auto) srt challenger, 392 Scat charger and now a hell cat. 392’s have a nice tone to them. There louder at start up and kinda quiet cruising. The hell cat is pretty damn loud at start and cruising. I work at a dodge dealer so I hear them all the time. I raced him at the track and seen him run several times. He averaged 12.6’s with a best of 12.5. Pretty sure his best 60ft was a 1.8 or 1.9 ? That’s messing with t/c on, part off, totally off and playing with launch control/tires pressure. He also tried the different suspension setting. If he had dr’s I’m sure he could’ve knocked of a couple tenths. We both were kinda expecting lower 12’s. I was averaging 12.2-12.3 that day. Only raced one time from a 65 to 95ish and I was surprised he didn’t leave me. It was pretty even. I’m sure the higher we went in mph he would pull away. Buddy got the hell cat shortly after that. Other buddy has a 6.1 srt 300c. Has exhaust/intake/tune. Hasn’t taking it to the track. Runs good for what it is. They would perform much better if they weren’t so heavy. H/c hauls ass even though it’s a tank lol
