HCI2000SS vs Freakls6

Met up with a new member on here the other day for a few friendly runs. No video but I'm sure he will chime in here to confirm. Basically he has a LS6 swapped 2000 Camaro SS. Stock LS6 heads, BTR 3 cam, Fast 92, true dual exhaust with a dumped x-pipe, and T56 with 4.10's. Car made 454 on a Mustang dyno. My mods are in my signature. To be honest I was expecting to take the win here, but this was a very tight race. We did a few runs from like 50-60 (he would spin bad at anything lower) to the top of 4th which is around like 125 for both of us. His car runs exceptionally strong for stock LS6 heads, and he might have had a very very tiny edge on me towards the very top of 4th...it was so close it was hard to tell. Both our cars are full weight with 315/35/17 drag radials. My total raceweight is probably a good 180-200 lbs more due to the iron block, full nitrous bottle, tools and stuff, and I'm a good 50 lbs heavier myself. I was really impressed with how strong his car was. I've ran a few other HCI LS1's and have yet to lose, and her comes this one on stock LS6 heads and runs this damn hard lol. Next time I'm gonna pull out the bottle and tools and see if that helps just a tad. My car is a pig at 3650 lbs with a full tank and all lol. Anyways I'm sure he will chime in here soon to fill in other details.

Very accurate post man. Not much else to add as of yet lol

Sounds like a good time. To bad no videos!

HCI2000SS 10-16-2018 07:30 PM

Yeah it was just me and him so no video unfortunately. Would have loved to have caught this on camera

Freakls6 10-16-2018 07:42 PM

There will definitely be a round 2 with video

V8EATR 10-16-2018 11:34 PM

Good runs, sounds like a close one

HCI2000SS 10-17-2018 03:54 AM

It was super close. It's looking like we will have round two here real soon and it will be on video. It's amazing how good his car runs for having stock LS6 heads, but then again that true dual setup might be worth a fair amount of power as well

Ls6's are strong runners. I never lost to a h/c car with my bolt on ls6. Everyone thinks omg omg....i gotta shove a cam in or heads on to make a ls run. Simply not the case at all.

HCI2000SS 10-17-2018 08:44 AM

Hio, in your opinion what is it that makes these LS6's run so good for what they are? I wonder if the heads are better than what the numbers suggest or maybe it's in the valvetrain or something.

Freakls6 10-17-2018 08:59 AM

I definitely agree ghat the ls6 is much stronger than my ls1 was even with both of them having 243 heads that are untouched minus springs. Not sure if its all in the csm spec or not but made another 30 hp at the tire with my ls6 over my ls1

I think it takes a well thought setup and it sounds like he thought it out and did the research. Allot of people still fall into the mindset of 102s are to big and 1 7/8 headers dont make more power and wonder why there car's run poorly.

You also have a smaller cam than before right? Which means that LS6 longblock is even better than a 30 hp gain

I agree, but in his case i honestly think he just got lucky lol. He was surprised that it did so well too from what I gather

Freakls6 10-17-2018 09:16 AM

Yes its a smaller cam “btr stage 3” in my ls6 vs my old ls1 had a tsp ms4 cam. Lucky or well thought out is up to u guys to decide but either way the thing is a blast to drive lol

sounds like good runs.

a lot of people do not understand the advantage of having light weight valves for upper rpm stability. Proper valvetrain is what makes a combo. Most opt for the cheaper 243's with regular valves not true LS6 heads.

This is exactly what I was wondering. Makes perfect sense

Freakls6 10-17-2018 09:43 AM

Correct me if im wrong but true 243 heads are running titanium hollow stem valves that are sodium filled correct ?

kinglt-1 10-17-2018 09:55 AM

Yes they are hollow stem sodium filled. I had a set done up by TEA(flowed 312 @ .600)...ported 92, mild 224/228 112 cam with slp 1.85 rockers, 1 7/8 kooks, fti 3800 stall, 3.73 gear. Stripper hard top car 3380lbs. It runs 11.3 with a 1.8 60ft on the street according to the draggy program. On the track with a 1.5 60ft it should go 10.9... sold it to a buddy and now he has been accused of having nitrous. I don't think the car runs any better then other well sorted LS cars...it's just properly done mild combo and many out there are not these days.

Correct they had the sodium filled valves.

kinglt-1 10-17-2018 10:00 AM

hollow stem intake, sodium filled exhaust.
