Wow, traction really is fucking everything I lost to a fucking bolt-on/tune Honda Civic just now, and I about surrendered my damn man card. He was cool as fuck, though, and I complimented him on his win and asked if we could do a couple more runs. I was more careful about spinning the tires and I annihilated his ass twice. So I'm 2-1 vs. his Honda. I can't believe that little tire spin was the difference between him gapping me and me putting bus lengths on him. My tires are brand new Firehawk Indy 500s, I can't believe I'm still spinning them like that from a launch. (1998 WS6 A4 ~70,000 miles w/ SLP Air Lid, 92mm FAST LSx Air Intake Manifold & Throttle Body, Long-Tube Headers -> ORY -> Borla w/ Cutout.) Sorry I'm not sure which part of the forum to put this. |
Put some drag radials on that thing. Nitto 555R's would be perfect for your mods. They are extremely good in the rain also. |
The firehawks suck for traction they are a cheap tire period. Throw some et streets on it or nittos and watch the result change. Had to of been a newer Honda Civic si? |
Hondas are poop. |

A good budget tire that offers a ton of grip is the federal rsrr they dont last for nothing but the grip is equivalent to Nt05's |
The new R can trap 105MPH. They are no joke. Get some drag radials. |

Hell with a couple of suspension upgrades the normal 555 dead hooks when warm in a bolt-on F-body. |
my 555 extremes (old design) do ok. 460 rwhp with 3.89s and a t56, if i smash it at 4000 in second gear it usually just chirps 2-3 times through the gear......however, if you arent dead straight they wanna spin much easier......my next tire will be regular NT05 tho, no radials tho, if i wanted to shorten my tire change interval i would use my line lock more often |
in winter time tho they were noticeably worse and would just about completely break loose like they weren't trying to grip. |

I had a stalled Formula with bolt ons and NTO5R's would still spin from a dig and I had just about every suspension mod you could do. Et streets had allot more grab to them |

How many miles can you put on ET streets? |
no the extremes are the non radial. miles id say at least 6000 with at least 25 5 second track burnouts. id say i got 35-40% tread life left. i dont understand why these guys with bolt ons have issues with these tires.....i mean yea the top half of 1st is useless but 2nd gear has a lot of use.....and yes from a dig they arent amazing but once moving i say great tire for what they are. and walmart i got them for 135 a piece...... |
