98 Z28 vs. Supercharged 5.0 Going to the movies with my brother and a friend when two lanes we hear before we see this red 5.0. From the sound of the whine i knew it was supercharged. We roll up to the next light and basically when it turned green we both nail it. From the launch I pull about a half car. We are about dead even untill I shift into forth and he just pulls like four cars on me like I was standing still. We shut them down at about 95mph. I follow him to the nearest parking lot and pull up next to him. He's like Damn what do you have in that thing and I say nothing but gears and no muffler. I ask him if its blown and he says yes he just got the car dynoed and he said it was putting 460 to the wheels. Now I know everybody going to call BS and bla bla bla but thats what he said. He also said he just got the car out of the shop for a new clutch so he still getting used to it. He said he was pretty damn surprised that we hung with him for that long. His car was a mid eighties convt 5.0 supercharged. Mine 98 z28 4.10, no muffler, hypertech programming, filter, short throw shifter pretty much stock. |
anything can happen on the street. Dont fuck with him on the track though lol. |

He probably wasn't lying about the power he probably just didn't have traction until 4th. Nice run. |
I think King02SS has it. If he "instantly" pulled 4 cars on you, it sounds like he just got traction. |

good run. i used to own a vortech S/C'd 347 foxbody stang. it was a beast, and would pull like a mother, but like said above, it had all kinds of traction issues. first and second gear were almost useless on street tires, unless i feathered the clutch going into each gear for a good while. but once it got into 3rd, and 4th it really moved. i raced a few LS1's when i had it, and they did very well against me. thats one reason i went to the LS1. my car was making over 470rwhp, and a lightly modded LS1 was not so far back on quite a few runs i had on the street. |

This story is perfectly feasable because it happens to me all the time. A freaking 15 second Prelude beat me off the line and held his lead almost all the way through my first gear. Once I finally got traction I put like 3 bus lengths on him. When you make that much power and you are on street tires there is no hope in going from a stand still. :( |
