Default Place your bets.

I know you all hate this, but my friends and I just can't agree. Since all of us will be in P-cola for Thanksgiving we decided to have a few races. Who do you think will win.

Me: 1998 Trans Am M6- FRA....(care to donate to my "too slow fund"?)
Daniel: 1990 MKIII Supra 5psd- BPU
Cory: 2001 Mustang GT 5 spd- Intake, catback exhaust, x-pipe, LT's, asp pulley, 3.73 gears, Steeda Short Throw, Superchips Programmer, 160º Thermostat
JT: 1999 Lightining, auto- Stock, flowmaster mufflers

We're all going to be on street tires Everyone will race everybody else, from a dig and from a roll, just to be fair. Who do you think will win over who? And anything you think I can do in a week to help my chances?? Thanks in advance. Luke

p.s I will try and get a video, but I have no idea how to put it on the site.

Luke, welcome to the site. I take it that your car is bone stock. Have you done any free mods? it will be a close race with the L. Not sure how well the mk3's run with just BPU but i figure if you can drive very decently the race is yours to take.

i will say you would take them from a dig or a roll. But it is definately time for mods. just make sure you row the hell out of your gears!

good luck and be safe.

stang will be close if he knows how to drive...

just make sure you feather the throttle and clutch out of the whole to prevent spinning and just lay it to them!

the lightning also. He's got some pipe on it, does he have the pulley? I bet he's hiding it, lol. Close race for sure and the mustang looks promising, but didn't they only have 240hp that year or 260?

Default No pulley

I'm pretty sure the Lightining doesn't have a pulley, the owner is a 17 yr old kid that got the truck on his 15th birthday, he isn't really into performance much so I doubt he knows what a pulley is. We invited him along just cause it's a lightining, not becaue he's our friend. lol

We are all divided on who win will. I Think The GT will, the GT owner thinks I will win, the Supra owner thinks I will win and the Lightining owner thinks none of us have a chance.

However it goes it's going to be a blast. I'm trying to find a video camera to tape it all. We'll see what happens this weekend.

I say its all you, the GT could be a good run but you will probably edge him out at the end.

I say from a roll

GT
You
Supra
L

from a stop

L
GT
You
Supra

of course this is dependent upon what roll speed, and how far you take the stop runs. The faster the roll, you better chance you have, and the farther you take the stop runs, likewise.

you are making ~50 more HP than the stang, he may have you for a while but you will reel and pass for sure IMO, I have also seen bpu mkiii's run amazingly well if the driver knows what they are doing.

Just practice your launch and learn to powershift if you don't know how to already. There's a M6 shifting technique thread at LS1.com if it's not on here, I believe. Do some reading, practice, and go smoke some ***!!!!!!

I agree. If you can drive you should be in the winners circle everytime. Just don't let them do a 20-70 race. Use that 6 speed LS1 and at least race to 100. Good Luck and work on getting the camera

I agree for the most part, when they bought the vehicle, it may have already been modified. Did he add the flowmaster himself or was it there when they bought the truck? with 18x9.5's factory rims, they get good traction. He's probably putting down 300rwhp and 400fpt. With a pulley, it would be even more. From a roll would be different, but I would be worried more from the lightning from a stop than anything else. If you can get a good launch, you will take him for sure in 2nd.

Your right and I agree but from my run ins with LS1s the Gt can run real well with 50 less hp, from a dig to about 85mph. Thats why I said the GT will be up front depending how far the race goes. Ive seen many GTs with 50 less hp running the same or better times (gearing and suspension) but still 50 hp less.

I still have to say the closest will be against the GT then the L. make sure you get outta the hole on the GT then you got it or you'll edge him out at past 85mph if you get a decent launch. Thats just how all my results were with many (50+) runs with all my buddys ws6s and SS's. When my Gt was N/A.

THe lightining may have 300 rwhp and 400lb rwtq, but he also weighs almost 1000 pounds more than my T/A (I think). I'll be surprised if he doesn't take me off the line, but a 1000 pound difference will catch up to him fast.

Plus the kid is a BAD driver, he's the "push the gas through the floor board and hope for the best" type of driver. Which you can't really do that with gobs of torque.

I'm more worried about the GT than the Lightining. Dig races will last 100+ and rolls will most likely be from 40-120+. The GT driver is good, I'd say we're prolly even on launching talent. If Christmas wasn't such an expensive season I'd have my lid and full exhaust by now and I wouldn't worry about any of them. Tis the season, thanks for the advice everyone.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

And be careful.
