The new Neon looks very impressive. It will likely have traction issues taking off from a standstill. I am curious how bad the torque steer will be? Should be a good little pocket rocket. It should help the domestic small car market compete with the imports.

Doesn't take too much to make a mustang owner cry
Mustang owners will have to put on a ton of mods just to keep from getting walked by a stock neon turbo 4 cylinder.
Those srt-4's have very very small turbos on them. The down side to them is that the turbo is all one piece with the exhaust manifold. So to upgrade the turbo you will have to put on a new manifold. But with a bigger turbo, even at factory boost levels, they should be good for around 300 horse. Heck, sport compact got one to dyno 215-220 hp at the wheels and around 245-250 on the torque, and they only weigh 2800lbs or so.
The sad part is that is about what a new Mustang GT dynos.

Re: Can us stock auto ls1's beat the new dodge neon srt-4
I'm glad dodge is making a fun car with potential to be fast even though I don't care much for fwd cars, they are also making a srt ram with a 500 horse viper engine now that is what I will be worried about!!
I'm not a dodge fan but at least they have the ***** to make cars and trucks like that. GM's answer to the neon is what a cavalier with performance parts availible from GM wow There answer to the srt ram is the ss silverado awd 345 horse tank

One more question for you since you like to talk trash about Mustang owners:
What does the new 2003 Camaro or Trans Am dyno??
Just curious buddy. Don't think that your smart *** comments go unrecognized.

I have a t56 01 SS. So at a 60 roll, it is a champ. I would think that the autos should not have a problem. It is a NEON. I have never been scared of one yet!

Not every factory stock LS1 automatic traps @ 104+. I've seen plenty barely hit 101-102(and that was with normal elevation). Just depends upon weather, vehicle weight(vert?), gearing, track prep, etc... And some F-bods just flat out run better than others(stock for stock).
It would probably be a close race on the highway. But who cares?! Just keep modifying your LS1's and this will never be a problem.

14.0@102 is that magazine testing? Then I think someone will hit like 13.7 just driving it harder.
Still no problem, our M6 cars trap like 105-107mph stock. Our A4 cars do like 103-106mph stock.
I think Mustang folks should be worried but not us.

I gotta give credit to a lot of 5.0 owners that I've met over the years. I've seen some pretty impresive numbers from their cars.
I've got a neighbor with a couple of pretty heavily modded Fox cars ('93 Cobra and a '91 LX Hatch, both mint condition as well) and I find both of those cars to be impressivly built, quick, and just damn nice looking American Muscle.

There's no question about it. Some of the old 5.0's looked badass and they could move! Then again, there were some that were absolute turds!

Re: Can us stock auto ls1's beat the new dodge neon srt-4
I had two 5.0 (and one early 4.6 ) Mustangs and I liked them both, quite quick back in their day.
I really like the new SRT-4 as well, I think it's a great idea and should steal some sales away from the import nameplates hopefully. I heard a magazine (Mopar Mag I think) already got a 13.7 out of one as well.
