So, I am out "trolling" and enjoying the perfect weather this evening around dusk hoping to find something to race. I am cruisin down Space Center and notice a silver pancake about 1/2 mile up the road. I accelerate a bit to catch up and realize it is a brand new 996 turbo. Instantly my heart starts pounding and almost instinctively my right hand hits the arming switch and turns off the bottle warmer. I get right behind him as he turns onto Nasa 1 by the Hilton and kinda gets on it a bit so I follow on motor and stay on his *** through 2nd till he lets off. I put it in 3rd and creep up beside him with the revs good and a smirk on my ugly mug as if to say, "Please God, let this guy try and show off to his blonde girlfriend..."! He takes the bait and nails it. He got a little jump, but to no avail. I matched his speed and start reeling in the carlength he jumped on me in 3rd. When I got beside him, about 5-10 mph faster than him, still in 3rd, he lets out and I just coast past him waving. I don't think he was expecting to see a wimpy little Mustang going past his $100,000 Porsche and it scared him. <img border="0" alt="[evil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" /> He didn't want any more after that and turned into Nassau Bay.

I keep going toward I-45 and see a silver C-5 at the light on Hwy 3 going toward League City so I jump behind him and turn. Before I could even get beside him he nails it, which happens to be right in front of the Webster popo station! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> .................HELL YES I raced him. I hit 2nd and got a little sideways until the DR's heated enough to hook up. Hit 3rd and made up the two car head start he got. Hit 4th and the hazards at the same time as if to say, "nice try"! Ended up putting about 3 cars on him before he shut down...........on motor. <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />

I am feeling lucky at this point so I head to I-45 to see if I can come across some bikes heading back from Galveston. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> No such luck though. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Splendid kill, reminded me of a very similar kill over here a while back.
A bunch of us who drag race in Englands street legal championship (http://www.ukstreetracers.co.uk) went to meet up with the American military guys who race in the championship at their air base, RAF Lakenheath in Norfolk.
I met up with a mate in my Camaro Z/28 in London to drive up there, he has one of the two Saleen S281s in Britain. I had recently bought a bullet camera (the size of a cigarette lighter) which plugs into a camcorder, so as to record footage discreetly, and we were testing that out passing each other on the Motorway. We got to the M11 near Cambridge and were cruising at about 90mph when we saw a new 996 Turbo in the middle lane. The Saleen was in front of me at the time, he went past the Porsche, so when I got alongside the Porsche he realised we were up for a laugh and floored it. I was in 6th at 90mph, which is only about 2,000rpm, but I managed to stay with the Porsche all the way to 150mph. The Saleen had trouble keeping up with us, but did. The Porsche and I went past each other a few times as we passed through traffic at very high speed, but it seemed pretty even really. Since that version of the 911 is supposed to have 420bhp here in England, it must be rather heavy too with the 4WD transmission. All caught on camera - I will post the footage once I have chopped it up and saved it.

I couldn't make it up north this weekend, but the Impala made a showing. He said the action was decent. I will be participating in the cruise/f-body buffet on 3/1/03, so I won't be out Saturday night. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I wish i would of been on Nasa rd. 1 to see you run, instead of at HRP. btw....i know i havnt been on to much of late...but that will change soon.

TITANIUM, what brand of wheels is that on your coupe in the pic? and are they 4 or 5 lug (probly five since there isnt to many wheels for the mustang FoX bodies)?

408 , believe it or not they are 4-lug. The brand is AZEV and they aren't really made for a fox body, they are made for an older Mercedes, but happen to have the perfect offset to fit 10's in the back. The friend I bought the car from used to work at Discount Tire in SoCal and did some research to find them back in 1993. They aren't in production anymore so I hope I don't decide to curbcheck them someday! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
