Did he ever make it to the dyno? Older carburated cars sound a lot faster than they are *most* of the time. You would be suprized what the little LS-1 would do to most of the old school big blocks.

NIce Kill....

I have been to the track a few times and have seen some stangs like mine with a 351w or one stroked a little, sound intimidating as hell becAuse they are running open exhaust... compared to my 3in through flows. My car is still faster then theres. Never let sound intimidate yA!....

I always though the old school big blocks would stomp my little 346.I thought because it's a stock vert. it would be to heavy of a car to run against big blocks.Boy was i wrong.

He couldn't get it on a dyno yet.I'm very curious as to what kind of HP he has.Hope to find out soon.I also want to get the T/A on a dyno just to see where i'm at.

If that 460 is built right you might have trouble. I would think from a roll you should get him depending on what speed. I have a buddy with a 72 swb and a nice 460 and that sucker would fly.

The kid with the built 460 stopprd by last night to tell me his truck dynoed at 380 RWHP.The dyno shop advised him to get some ported heads and a new ignition system.

You know how the story goes....he wants to race again when he gets his new goodies installed.Naturally i excepted the challenge.Maybe i'll have the new TSP Lid on before i race him again.Sounds like fun.

Put some long tube headers on your car along with that high flow lid. You'll feel the difference. If you can't afford headers, put a underdrive pulley on. You've only begun to mod your car, he is running out of stuff to do.
If he wants to play the mod game, I hope he has a big wallet, because that is what it is going to take to make up the wieght and coefficient of drag dissadvantages he has.

The lid might yield 5 hp or more and the pulleys are supposed to gain up to 9 rwhp (i doubt it, they benefit you most by making your car rev faster and get you into the power quicker). The EGR mod will lower the intake temp some, but probably isn't worth but a couple hp. And I'm not sure what TBB stands for, but I'm guessing throttle body something. I would save your money on the throttle body mod, because without an LS6 intake I don't think you are going to get any benefit IMO. The LS6 intake opening is larger, therefore would accomodate a larger throttle body or should I say make better use of it.
So with pulleys and a lid and EGR mod, I would guess about 10 -12 rwhp.
Your next big gain will come with opening the exhaust side of things, like headers and high flow cats and even a cutout. the cutout is the best bang for buck mod. It is about $30 and has to be welded in, but when you take the plate off, it usually yeilds about 10rwhp. And then your car will sound almost as loud as that truck.

Get a convertor before you get the headers!!!

It's all about $$.I may not be able to do headers and a converter till i get the car paid for.

If i can pick up another 20hp without spending to much money that would be cool.

I'm interested in the cutout,i have a friend who has a small muffler shop.He could weld them in for me.

Let see now...TSP Lid,cutout, pulleys,EGR mod..i could afford that.

Dean,
I have been thinking about doing the TSP Lid, underdrive pulleys,TBB and EGR mod. What do you think the gaines would be?

I have three years left to pay on the T/A,so i don't have a lot of extra money for mods right now.I plan on doing the mods i mentioned above very soon.

I was holding out for a chrome TSP Lid.I may just order a black one.

My dad had a 460 with decent H/C, Borla exhaust, and a custom made fuel injection intake. It made 441 RWHP/560 RWTQ. Unfortunately, it was in an extra cab short bed truck with 4WD. It would smoke all sorts of cars and trucks but I don't think it was as quick as an LS1. It also drank to the tune of about 8 MPG. That engine would be downright brutal in a Mustang, but in a truck it was better at towing than racing. Sounded badass though.

BTW, Nice kill.

That sounds like a good plan.
And I was wrong about the LS6 intake having a bigger opening for the throttle body. It only has bigger runners.
As an example, here are my past results:
Airbox lid, K&N, ported MAF, cutout = 318rwhp/326trq
+ SLP long tube headers, Random tech cats, 3" y-pipe =
330rwhp/340trq
+ C1 cam =
350rwhp/352trq

I haven't dynoed my car recently with my newer mods, but will soon. But that should give you an idea of what you can expect, although since you have an automatic and I have a 6 speed, you would dyno a little less with the same mods due to more drivetrain loss.

Hope this helps and I think you are on the right track.

I noticed that you have an 02, which means that you have a LS6 intake already. So you should dyno at or above what I did because my numbers were with a LS1 intake.
