98 Z28 v. 05 Evo VIII
It's a bit of sibling rivalry, my bro is on the way home from NJ for Woodward (MI thing) and wants to run the cars at the strip, wondering how you guys have done against evos if you have encountered one... not that many around here. here are the stats of both cars:
1998 LS1 Camaro Z28
Cold Air Intake w/SLP parts
Edelbrock Long-tube drag headers w/ y-pipe (No cats)
SLP cat-back
Tuned ECU
Tuned Auto (4) Trans
3350 lbs w/o driver – so ~3500 with
Don’t know whp, car hasn’t been dynoed...yet...I am guessing over 320+ whp
v.
2005 Evo VIII
Greddy Type-S BOV
RMR Air Induction
Apexi GT Catback
DC Sports Downpipe (No cat)
Hallman MBC @ 20 psi w/93 oct
Walbro 255
TurboTrix Flash
3263 w/o driver – so ~3480 with
318 whp, 303 tq (@ 19-20 psi on 93 gas)
what do you guys think... i know the AWD will hirt me but if it is hot likes its been I am not worried about connecting with my tires Bridgestone Fuzzion...do pretty well if warm...nothing a good burnout won't hurt.

If hes running 20psi and truly putting that much power down. I would think he could beat you. I raced a stock one and just blew him away even off the line but once again, he was STOCK. This guy couldnt drive and still ran 13.5 stock. I would advise to be careful. Im not too sure if you can take him. Let see what everyone else thinks.

the newest EVOs are already running 19lbs of boost from the factory, so they dont have a ton of power to gain from that... "tuned" do you mean you had your car dyno tuned by someone using ls1edit or hptuners??? that could make a difference,
plus dont forget that even with a stock turbo he is going to have some turbo lag in there
i would think you have close to 330whp if it was tuned right and the race will be close, it will depend on how good he can use the AWD

Yeah I have the stage 2 Jet chip installed, and for every pound of boost he picks up 7 hp, so figure with the gas and whatelse he might try to get out of it before he gets here it will be around 22-24, and yes they can run it. As far as turbo lag it's hard to tell the car picks up pretty well on its own for that to make the difference.

I would say it would be really close. It really depends if he blows a shift or the launch. Do you have a converter in the car? Does your car have power accessories, power windows, etc? The A4 Camaro weighs in at over 3400, mine was 3480.
If he is running race gas, I don't think you have much of a chance. Those cars don't have as much turbo lag as people believe.
Good luck to you.

partially correct.
19 lb spike and the factory ECU tapers boost to 16 lbs. if he's hitting and holding 20 psi to redline and it's tuned he is gonna gain signifigant power.
if the Z is at 330 whp and the evo is at 320 whp, the Z will lose.

yeah my car is fully loaded, windows in all, t-tops also, so i would expect the weight to be a little higher, we will both be running the race gas for the day... with the little money i have left, but for now these are all the parts i have done.

But your brother is going to gain 30 HP or more from running race gas (My Jetta picked up 30 on the stock turbo). 100 octane I assume? You don't stand to gain as much as he will.
I fear for you...

jsut curious as to why the ls1 driver is going to be running race gas?
spraying? if not, i think it would hurt more than help to r un race gas on an NA motor with moderate compression.

Assuming equal drivers it sounds like he'd probably get you.
However if he's like 99.99999% of AWD drive owners at the tree, and you can get out of the gate without spinning (should be entirely possible with an A4), then it could be a good run.

I mean't that 99.999999% of AWD owners don't take advantage of the AWD from a dig. REGARDLESS of the reason/excuse (scared of breaking, too hard on my car, etc.), they just don't use it to their advantage. Like leaving on the rev limiter and dumping the clutch....

ok good to know, I know he can drive his car pretty well, and you you guys do know that this is not a street race we will be at a drag strip so the conditions will be better than any road (gravel, rough surface, etc.) and we will be doing this all day pretty much so we will be trying out different things and he will tune his car and try different launches and all.
