I beat a GTO

I was on my way home when I spotted a yellow GTO. I was making a left turn and saw him looking all alone at the light. (lol) So, I decided to make a quick U-turn to check out the car and maybe get a quick run in. As soon as I get to the light, before I even come to a complete stop, he gets on it. Well, I was shocked and eased into it at first, then floored it. I didn't completely floor it at first, because I thought he may have been just taking off fast. Anyway, I started spinning in first pretty bad and then got traction. As soon as I floored it and stopped spinning I started to pull. (keep in mind he started ahead of me, because he just floored it before I was at the light) Once I got into second gear I pulled a little more and got about 1 car ahead by 3rd gear and then he shut down. It may have been a little less than a car length, it was hard to tell. I know it was a manual, because I saw him hit second gear pretty hard. After the race, I slowed down to give him a thumbs up and he returned the favor.

I tried to get a look at the side of the car to see if it was a 6.0 or a 5.7. He took a right turn right away and I didn't get a good view. I'm going to have to say it was a 5.7 though. I don't think I would have pulled on a 6.0 in second or 3rd gear. It was a nice yellow manual GTO. Is there any other way to tell what kind of GTO it was, without seeing the 6.0 on the side?

I have a 94 Z28 with bolt ons. (LT headers, Matching Y-pipe, Moroso CAI, LT4 KM)

Nice kill. if it had a hood scoop it was a 6.0. If they do not it should be a 5.7.

Camaro 0wner 01-02-2006 08:38 PM

I know it had those two little black things on the hood. I noticed it when I was passing him before the U-turn. It wasn't one scoop though, it was two scoops that kind of looked like a toned down WS6 hood.

CuNfUzEd 01-02-2006 08:39 PM

Then you smoked a 6.0. Unless the guy upgraded his hood.

454 01-02-2006 09:39 PM

its a 6.0 if it has duals

krayzie7th 01-02-2006 09:42 PM

yea it has to be a 6.0 but non the less nice kill.

What mods do you have?

looks like these are his mods

Camaro 0wner 01-03-2006 12:03 AM

lol yeah, those would be my mods.

ActionJack 01-03-2006 06:36 AM

Nice kill

FWIW the 2004 GTO started offering the hoods with scoops at the end of the year. The biggest difference to distinguish the two would be whether or not it had dual exhaust on both sides of the rear (05) or just the drivers side (04).

YlwGTO4m3 01-03-2006 08:48 AM

so you let an ls1 get the jump, you spun, and still you pass him with an lt4?? I guess anything can happen on the street but it seems unrealistic that you would catch an ls1 or ls2 that had the jump on you.

Lots of 04's have 05 hoods these days, best way to tell is the plastic bumper that doesn't match the paint with split dual exhaust is an 05. An 04 has dual exhaust but they both exit the same side. The fronts and sides are identical i think. except the badge will say 6.0 but it's small and hard to see

Camaro 0wner 01-03-2006 12:15 PM

He got the jump because he just floored it without warning. He was only about a half a car in front of me, when I floored it. I did spin, but it wasn't enough to matter a great deal. If I would have got traction, I would have pulled harder and passed sooner, but it's not like I was sliding all over the road. Why would this make you confused? The GTO was obviously stock and I bet he dynoes right around the same as me. His car is heavier, so I don't see any reason to be confused. (This is assuming it was a 5.7, because I think it was)

Don't be the only negative person because you own an 04 GTO. How ironic that the only person who is confused has the same car... :nono: Did you run your car at the track bone stock? If so, what did you run? Quarter and 1/8?

By the way, I have an LT1. If I had an LT4, it would have just been nasty... :drive:

Nice kill....gto goats are pretty quick........i ran one the other day.....wasent that close but still they are quick.

CuNfUzEd 01-03-2006 03:57 PM

95blowncobra 01-03-2006 04:21 PM

Just from searching ls2 sites, most M6 LS2 goats are dynoing<sp?> 340-345rwhp, auto is around 330rwhp...

http://www.ls2gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19228

Shows an a4 goats numbers. Curb weight is listed at 3,725. So VERY believe-able...especially since my TA beat one as well :)

LT14Formula 01-03-2006 05:01 PM

I've never ran a Goat, but I've got a 95 trans am and I don't see an LT1 car beating an LS2 Goat. 330rwhp seems low for an LS2 goat. I mean I guess its possible but.... it seems strange.

Somehow we all got confused. 87turbo is right, the 05-06 GTO's do dyno around 330-345 Rwhp. Personally, I think I would get pulled by one of those, but it would be close due to the weight.

We are talking about a 5.7 that I raced, not a 6.0. They come with 350 crank hp and make about the same Rwhp as I would.

So, LT14Formula do you understand how my race makes sense? It was a 5.7 (04) not a 6.0 (05). I'm not sure how we got lost...

CuNfUzEd 01-03-2006 05:29 PM

I wont even come close to trying to call BS on this. I have seen alot of these cars run 13.8 to 14.0. Nothing hard to believe about the story at all.

Camaro Owner, what gears do you have? A4 or M6? Sorry if I missed that.
