Moroso trip
Went to moroso friday night, after waiting in line for about 2 hours I finally got to run. It was my first time at the track, and I raced a 2005 SRT-4. I got a .460 R/T and a 14.04 1/4mi. The srt had a better r/t, .160, and got about 2-3 car lengths on me, but I walked him down and passed him. He got a 14.5 1/4mi. My Trans am has headers, cutout, and k/n filter. I figure if I had some practice, and some new tires, I could bring it down to the mid 13s.
Yeah I know the r/t is really bad, but I thought I pulled up too far and thought I had to back up, then the lights started to go, and I didn't get a chance to power brake it. But hey Im not dissapointed with a 14.0 for my first time there..
I didn't expect pulling up to the line would get my heart beating like it was. I had a blast, and can't wait to go back. But next time I know I need to go early....

reaction time has nothing to do with your times, the only time R/T matters is in bracket racing. You could sit at the light for 5 minutes and still run a 14.4 or what ever time, your time starts once you car passes the beam, the reaction times starts from the last light in the tree to the time you hit the beam...see what I'm saying. But its still good to practice your R/T for bracket events, see...in bracket events its all about who gets the finish line first with in there dial in so its important to leave the line the best you can. Sorry about the ramble just wanted to help you understand.
Practice your launches and you will increase your times for sure!

Moroslow's track prep is good for all of 20 minutes. As the night goes on, you launch on pea soup.
14.0 sucks, but then again, that's what I ran my 1st trip to the track (I had no idea what I was doing).
Practice practice practice. A Skittle should not be beating you from a dig anywhere, ahyhow.
Good luck!

What should I be running?

You should be knocking on 12's. My friends all stock 98 Z28 A4 ran 13.3@105 with 100K miles on it. I know several ppl with A4 LS1's running 13.2ish (02 WS6's) And i know another guy running 12.87 with just Borla cat-back and a lid on a 6-speed Z28 (01 or 02, not sure). Sounds like you need to jsut get some practice in. The car has the wheaties to do low 13's imho though.

Just looked at the time slip again, the actual numbers are 14.067@102.96. I have some older khumos on it, so I just left the TCS on, which of course makes the car bog a little when it starts to slip. Ill have to go back soon, and see if I can do any better.

With LT's and nothing else (M6) I ran 13.1 if I recall. Again, still didn't know how to drive well at the time.
Moroso suffers from awful humid hot weather in the summer. In winter, I've ran pretty good there. I trapped 118mph there when my car was cam-only in my daily driver in the winter, so weather plays a huge role. I also used to get there very early and cut good 60' times (1.7's on stock suspension) while the track was still sticky.

what was your 60' time? 2.3, 2.4?
Anything under 2.0 is decent on a street tire.
TCS OFF!

OK, that 60' is awful.
For every .1 reduction in 60', see .15 reduction in your ET (rule of thumb).
Get some Nitto Drag Radials, 17psi inflation, go to the drag racing forum and research A4 launch techniques. A stall converter will do wonders also.
cheers.

Take TCS off, give as MUCH gas as you can from a dig after tq braking to 1K rpm to get the slack out and then roll into it as FAST as you can w/o breaking them loose. That is what always did the best in my 95 Trans Am A4 on the street.
