Default 06 GTO vs 99 SS... plain and simple!

Ok, so i get home from a long day of work and school, then my sister calls me and asks me what im doing. Then she tells me shes hanging out with her boyfriend, and his grandparents just bought him a brand new 06 GTO, but hes making payments on it. She says that he thinks itll be able to take me. I told her she was probly right but i would go ahead anyway cuz i might have to sell the car soon anyway. So i get to safeway and we roll out to a street where there are no people and we hit it from a roll in 1st... probly like 20. I let him take the hit, and he took me pretty good... even though we only went to the end of second cuz my dumb *** missed a shift... then we turn around and go from a stop. I tell him to count, and on 3, i am off! i actually took off a little too early, like a split second before he said 3... but anyway, i can hear him right next to me and it sounds mean! then, the wierdest thing happens! ...i start to pull on him. and im pulling more and more until i have about a car legnth on him at around 80. He is an A4, and i am an M6... i didnt think that would make much of a difference seeing as how theres such a great power difference between my engine and his. We are both completely stock. Does anyone know what these things usually run? Should he have beaten me? We get back to safeway and its all in good fun. i told him his **** was quick and he told me the same. then of course... just like how all my stories end... we smoked a victory joint in my honor and we all lived happily ever after! THE END

You being a 6spd and him an auto I see it being a close race due to his weight.

sounds about right. They have more power and more wieght, plus you have the gearing advantage with the M6. Both cars should be capable of low 13's.

It's going to be a close one. I would of said if you had the ls6 intake like the 01-02's, you would take him, but it's a tough call.

I thought the LS2 GTOs were faster stock than the LS1 F-bodies. Being a manual you def. have the gearing advantage, and he, in the auto might not have been at his best speed for a roll race, but either way nice kill for a practically stock F-bod.

Those cars have 50 more hp on us, but about 350-400lbs extra weight, plus his A4 to your m6, so the results are what I'd expect.

That sounds about right. great job. nice death/ kill...

those A4 GTO are picky... the torque management is a bitch from the factory.

Yeah the GTO has IRS which is not built for drag racing. From a roll the GTO's power advantage showed. From a stop it's a driver's race.

Nice race.

The problem with the GTO's is that you have to get used to the IRS coming out of the hole. The rear has a tendancy to go into wheel hop very quickly if you push to much power to quickly. They need to be feathered.

The next big issue is that torque management kill the power also coming out of the hole. So that needs to be programmed out once the software is availible. Once this is done - the A4's are supposed to be quicker then the M6 GTO's in the 05 & 06 - per Pontiac due to gearing changes in the tranny.

Then once that is all done it comes down to the most important part - the driver. Good driver can kill off a lot of horsepower advantage.
