10 sec Viper vs 10 sec Buick
Finally got the Turbo Buick back together and ready to make my first run in sunny FL after living in Dallas and Denver for a few years. Made my way to Bradenton last night for a little test n tune.
On my first pass I didn't plan on locking the converter and just wanted to take it easy off the line to baseline my setup. My previous best times were at 5800 ft up at Bandimere, Co and DA's of 10,000 ft. Low to mid 11's around 121-126 mph. Down in humid Bradenton, FL, the DA's are much much lower than that so I was expecting to run pretty strong.
I was in the slick tire lanes so the starting line was sticky with no street tire cars dragging sand up there! I lined up against a nitroused (I'm guessing on the way it sounded) ten second Viper with a wing (one of those rocky n bullwinkle wings) on it. I saw the car in the pits right behind where I was parked and thought, that is the gheyest wing I have ever seen, which wasn't on a Honduh. Then again, it's his car, whatever he wants to do. I thought it would be a close race but I didn't expect much of a race since I had never run and didn't know where my boost was gonna be at. Either I'd leave him or he'd walk all over me if I didn't have the boost. It was a test n tune and he had no time marked on his car so I only have half a time slip, but my half has the winning difference: 0.3772 seconds
Nonetheless, he launched hard off the line or red lighted and I was a car back right off the bat. My 1.65 60 foot wasn't too shabby, but the boost hit hard after a few feet out. It must have been >25 psi boost since I saw a couple degrees KR in 2nd, and red KR lights in 3rd. My boost guage only goes to 25 and I only watch the knock guage from time to time. I thought it must be the shift that caused 'em to go red so I stayed on the gas trying to chase this Viper down. By the 1/8th I had reeled him in a little as he shifted his manual tranny and my bumper was half a car back. Everytime he shifted I'd gain a little. I heard a loud POP every time he let off the throttle. By the 1000 ft mark he started pulling away with his better aerodynamics.
When I crossed the finish it was the first time I got a scared at the track. I was in the left lane. The car wanted to cross the centerline and I felt the rear moving right under braking so I went with it. The Viper was safely ahead so I knew I was ok as long as I could get back in my lane and put the brakes back on. Once it was slowed I was fine. When the attendant handed me my timeslip I became relieved as I realized my goal of a ten second pass.
7.045 @ 100.68 1/8
10.921 @ 126.95 1/4
My next "run" last night resulted in a snapped axle when I tried to launch much harder...Not bad for my first run in FL.

Thanks. I could run against a lot of trailered "race" cars with a low 11 at Bandi. The best I ran there with my near stock Z06 was 13.4, which didn't feel too quick to me.

I think only LSx based engines can get in the different clubs. My Zo6 will have to do for now.
