Default First Race With New Mods!

My friend and I were cruising tonight and we came up on a 1996 Mustang GT. It had a huge exhaust and was pretty loud. We caught a light next to each other and went on green. I babied it out of the whole and started spinning bad in first while he pulled away. I short-shifted second and continued spinning while he kept pulling away. Having had enough of that, I short-shifted third and stopped his pull almost instantly. By that time he was probably about 2-3 cars ahead of me. As the rpm's came up in third I started pulling hard on him and by the top of third I was pulling next to him when he hit the brakes.

We stopped at a light and he said to get going about 35 mph and run it again. I suggested instead that we go onto the highway and run it. He agreed and we followed him up. He was ahead and I was cruising up to him in 6th gear. I was about a car behind and he hit it early. I quickly downshifted to 3rd and hit it and by about 110mph I was pulling next to him again when he hit the brakes.

I was getting a bit annoyed by now, but we followed him off the highway and into a gas station. We got out and the first thing out of his mouth was, "Does that thing have a supercharger?". I laughed and told him no, it had bolt-ons and a cam. I asked what his had and he said it he had a supercharger and exhaust and that it was an automatic. He was a younger guy and I could tell he hadn't been on the racing scene very long, lol. I asked him if he wanted to go up onto the highway again and run it once more. He quickly agreed and we headed out. My friend and I were laughing knowing I was going to smash him bad.

We got next to each other going about 35mph. I put it in second gear and gave him the jump and then hit it. I instantly started pulling him and by 90 mph I was a few cars in front of him easy. We lined up one last time going about 70mph and I gave him the jump again and instantly started pulling. This time I we took it right out to about 125mph and I had many cars on him bye the end. We got next to each other at a light after and he was like, "Man, that thing's fast!" and then he turned off the road, lol.

Overall, I'm totally happy with my car's performance, but I'll be ordering some drag radials on Monday because my stock tires are pretty much useless, lol.

due i know how you feel. ls1s are outragoues. i drove an 01 stock mustang before i got my ls1, and i can seriously say i hated being in that car. it was so small in the interior, and it was so SLOW. i am totally honest here, i swear my life on it, and i cannot believe how much faster an ls1 was. i am so impressed with an ls1, i do not see why an owner would wnat to buy a mustang. my opinion though, dont want to offend anyone

LOL, yeah I definitally have no problem with Mustangs. I think they're pretty cool cars. Personally, I wouldn't ever get one with a SOHC 4.6, but to each his own.

Its only lately that you really see people making huge power in proffesional race teams with 4.6s in the drag series. Most of the cars in the Mustang dominated classes still use Windsor based motors.

Are you talking about the SOHC 4.6's? I'm assuming so, since the 4-valve motors seem WAY better from what I've read and seen on the track.

Ford didn't seem to think so. But you can still order a 5.0 from Ford's race division. At least when I checked last summer for a neighbor.

edit: Yeap, you can still get em'.

the 4.6L motor has more potential b/c the block is much stronger, if you want to be techincal. However, within reason, the 5.0 is easier to beef up power-wise until we start talking FI.

Either way, a 1996 GT with a blower outright sucks *****. The races weren't even close. Cool kid, but definitally a lesson in what not to get.

The 2V Stangs are pretty quick I guess, but not anywhere near LS1s. Even the 3V haven't caught up to the 97 LS1's output.

The 4V design, on the other hand is awesome. I like Mach 1's, and I LOVE 03-04 Cobras. Definitely some of the best engines ford has put out.

Yeah, the 96-98 SOHC 2v GT's aren't nothing special. One of the worst v8 engines ever made, if not the slowest too in stock form. I think the v6's of that year are on par with it power wise. 96-97 are rated at 215 hp and 98 at 225 hp, but they dyno prolly 190-200 hp stock. Nothing to be impressed with at all.

Good kill! Prolly made the kid go sell his car and get a LT1/LS1.
