Default Raced a Turbo 240 tonight...

The car is a 240 with a motor swap, some kinda Garrett Turbo, and a buncha other stuff.....

We were gonna go on my 3rd honk...But apparently he thought 2 was 3 lol...He jumped me, actually ran pretty hard...I walked him back around 50-60 and put a couple on him...

So, we went again, I gave him the go, but we went off some good concrete this time, and I got a chance to get ready...I stalled up to 3200 and DEAD hooked on the street...He took the hit, and 60' out I had probably 2-3 on him, and pretty much put like 10 or more on him by the time I hit 4th...

He's an aight guy, and his car ran pretty good...I think he's still got a lil more in it though, because its a good motor and a good turbo...

Probly an sr20det they aren't really fast and they require engine work to be fast, but for some reason or another lotsa ricers like them

brad,

Thanks ...

LS1 GG,

Its supposedly got ALOT done to it, not to mention an aftermarket Garrett turbo (he was wearing a "Garrett Respect" shirt around last night lol). But yeah, I'm pretty sure its an sr20.....I know the guy has alotta time in the car, so I try to give him credit, but he actually called me up and asked me to race...So I was kind enough to do it

No problem with that, good kill. Nice to a good friendly domestic/import run.

Yeah, he's a cool guy, known him for awhile...I think here in about 2 weeks I'll be racing a friend of mine with a modded 03 SRT-4

But yeah, I think the 240 is a (though I hate to say it) "drift car"....rather than a drag racer...But he was cool about it...

Nice kill.

I raced one down at our local races. He stayed right next to me in 1st and 2nd but when I hit third I started to walk him. Very fast car. His car must have been very light too because it was completely gutted.

Funny ending:

We decided to leave the runs and go home. I am riding in my camaro with two HUGE passangers. One weighing 310lbs and the other a good 280lbs and my 200lbs self. The guy in the turbo 240 leaves at the same time and he wants to race me on the city streets on the way to the freeway. So we race from light to light with me pulling him harder and harder everytime (I guess his turbo was getting tired). He was with his girl and I know she must have been embarrased getting whooped on over and over. So we stop at the last light before the freeway and all of a sudden a CHP car rolls up behind us. I know he must have heard us racing.
Long story short, I play it cool and pull into the gas station and the 240 keeps driving straight. 1/2 a block later the CHP blurps him and pulls him over

now thats gotta suck....getting whooped on and then getting pulled over.

Yea we have a bunch of 240's around here that have sr20 swaps or turboed KA engines, I really was kinda disapointed to see a lot of them are not very fast low 14's high 13's. But I gotta give them respect for relizing an inadequecy and dropping a more stout engine...too bad the LS1 swap isnt popular with them...

You know i noticed this too. For that motor swap being so popular they don't perform overly that well. I ran a kid in the TA he has a 240 with an sr20det swap, i ACTUALLY thought it was going to be a good race he was running 13.8-13.9@101mph the TA running 13.6-13.8@102-103mph. It was a slaughter, we went from 30mph i figured i'd give him an advantage alittle. First he hung well the A4 shifted to 2nd an it was over.

Then ran him again in my GP cause he started saying he could be the GP then i was running 13.7-13.9@101mph with a messed up computer that wasn't allowing the tranny to shift the rev. limiter was messed up it would hit the limiter on every shift. Fixed it then ran him, again it was a slaughter lol. Back then the GP was faster from 0-120mph then the TA i just never told anyone .

Yeah, I talked to the guy today...Apparently he blew his old setup, and traded the good parts (larger Garrett turbo, etc...) for another stock sr20 longblock, and stock turbo...BUT, its still a 240 with an sr20 swap, boost controller, full exhaust, upgraded intercooler and a computer tune....Either way, its a quick lil car, but I think it'd benefit from a bit bigger turbo...

I didn't really know what they ran in the 1/4....thats interesting...I think they put down pretty good dyno #'s, and don't weigh all that much...

I know a guy building a turbo 240. The motor is from a skyline. There's a place that sells japanese motors from Japan. Sounds kind of funny but let me explain. They sell motors from Japan that are 40000 miles old and transmissions too. Apparently, the country has very stiff emission laws. The motors get replaced at around 40000 miles. Most owners, replace the transmission too when they get their new motor. The country is small, so 40k miles may take awhile. I thought it was funny at first but he said, you can get the motors and transmissions cheap. I will see if I can find the name of the company that does it. Would be a good idea for a hobbie, lol.

As corny as this might sound or whatever, one of the main reasons behind me building my car is an aquaintance with one of these who's car last season made 438whp / 373tq and ran 11.9 @ 126.

A good friend of mine has a silvia (240sx) that is pushin' somewhere in the ball park of 320-330hp and is supposed to run 12.2x's, it's one mean little car (sr20det,exhaust,intake,larger intercooler,gt25 turbo,etc.,etc.). Those cars only weigh about 2700 lbs and handle amazingly. i would definetly agree with one of the above statements, these cars don't shine in the quarter, but take one to the twisties and it's a differents story.

The SR20 is an awesome motor for a small car. Its all aluminum unlike most turbo 4s which have iron blocks (4G63, etc) So its a very light motor. Put that in a light 240 and you have fun car.

But stock w/ stock turbo they are low 200s crank hp. So while the weight and RWD mean they launch pretty well, they are not going to keep up at higher speeds.

I love that chassis, if anyone knows of a place making LS1 kits for it I would love to hear about it. I know Aires (is he even here anymore?) has one with like 450WHP. I think it would be as much if not more fun than a RX-7 LS1.
