Some guy eyeballing me hard yesterday on the way home from work – a White 99+ style Mustang with S281 badges and a Saleen windshield sticker. From about 55-60mph, no race but…… does anybody know anything about those cars?

It was quiet, I couldn’t hear anything, but the guy was looking pretty “cocky” if you know what I mean – kinda smirking and shaking his head as if to say “Don’t even try”.


Just curious what’s up with those cars?


PS: I do not street race - so even if he wanted to go, I would not have taken the bait. Now, at the track? That's what i'm curious about.

Depends on what model Saleen it is...

You have an appearance model GT: Body kit, intake and exhaust maybe suspention, maybe high 13s.

There is an S281 SC which dynos between 340-355rwhp and can hit high 12s if driven right. Saleen series IV blower I think but I could be wrong.

Then theres an S281 E, 440HP, dynos near or around 400rwhp and runs about as quick as a 02-04 Z06, a guy I know has one and ran a high 11sec with DRs....

All pretty nice but way over priced.......

After doing some research I found that the SC model is rated at 350hp at the flywheel and magazines (0 credit) have seen 13.4's out of them. I would guess that mid 13's for the SC model and average driver is aceptable. The "E" or Extreme I haven't found any information on but at any rate - either one of those 3 models would have gotten freight trained if he wanted a shot at me. It was a very nice car tho - they're sharp looking.

I drove by a 3 valve the other day and the freakin exhaust was rattling. I'd be pissed if I payed that much for a nice looking Saleen and the exhaust rattled.
