Raced an 06 350Z this morning and....
I rarely race on the streets but if somebody wants to go, I'll punch her up to 60 from a light and shut her down. This morning I pulled up to a 350Z at a red light and he looked over. It didn't look like he wanted to go so I didn't pay too close attention but I stepped on it anyway. I looked over and he was hangin so I really got on it and speed shifted and everything. I had a car length on him all the way up to 65MPH until I shut her down and let him by.
I was surprised becuase I thought those 350Z's were pretty quick. I did a little research and found that we're actually pretty closely matched. Who do you think should win?
350Z (if it was manual):
300HP @ 6200 - 3404lbs
260ft-lbs tq @ 4800
350Z (if it was auto):
287HP @ 6200 - 3391lbs
274ft-lbs tq @ 4800
Mine(stock):
275HP @ 5000 - 3345lbs
325ft-lbs tq @ 2000
I'm not sure what the hypertech tune and 160°stat add.

I usually didn't have a problem with stock 350's with my 93 from a dig. A friend of mine bought a six speep 350 and put a CAI, exhuast and some other minor mods and then it was pretty even until about 100 where he would start to edge me out, but I attributed that to his m6 to my auto on the higher end.

I raced a 350z from a second gear roll in my cammed/4.10 geared Firehawk. I let him get the jump and put 2+ bus lengths on him from 2nd to half way into 4th. It was a slaughter.
I saw the same guy 3 weeks later he had traded that 350z for a different color and it had 3 pc rims (with an incorrect offset, looked off ) same chain of events although that race wasn't as long. (To the end of 3rd)
Can't wait to get my D1 Procharger.
If I raced in my 1994 130k mile Formula it wouldn't have been so enjoyable.

Obviously the auto 350Z you are referring to running a 13.6 was modded. They are low 14 second cars stock. The manuals are in the high 13's.
A turbo 350Z?? Yea, and a turbo LT1 will eat up a turbo 350Z. Whats your point??

They have a little better top-end than the LT1, but not a TON. The aftermarket for the SBC is huge and the gains seen w/ a lot of the turbo setups on the 350Z's just aren't that great.
Don't get me wrong. . . cool car, nice motor, great handling. . . nice all around car I wouldn't mind driving ('cept I hate the flippin' sound, so does my friend who sold his TA for one--he's getting another TA BTW )

IMO the 350Z is a great FI car that comes NA. Its got a nice even-tempered engine with a broad powerband, a stong driveline, and a solid chassis.
But Bolt-ons just dont seem to do much for it unlike others. Which is still weird to me. The car is pretty tame in stock form. Its got power evenly distributed and all, mellow cams etc. You would think it would really liven up with simple mods to move the powerband rightward and upward.
I hope when they really start coming into the used car market in force you see people FIing the crap out them.

If you reverse everything in that statement, its dead on.

I whipped many 350Z's asses when I had just a lid and flowmaster muffler, they are just a hyped up car among the import crowd. A decent race for an Lt1 though. No match for an LS1.
