Default Just had my first race with an evo

Yea i was coming home from the beach today when i saw and evo VII come up behind me then he stayed with me for a while but i didnt really want to race but i just said what the hell. The first race was from a 55mph roll and i went on his honks. I put one and a half to to cars on him to about 100. Then the second race we went from a 35mph roll which sucked for me because of my gears i was at the bottom of second but he beat me by a car, but o well no excuses. I talked to the guy after the race and he said that he had new cams, a stock turbo, and he said he was running 20 pounds, but someone tell me if he could actually do this, i dont know. Then we both gave each other the thumbs up and drove off. Oh and i have 1999 trans am 6 speed with longtubes, no cats, flowmaster(yea it sucks), new lid, 85mm maf, and 4.10s. It was my first race with the car so im pretty happy.

Sounds about right for a cammed Evo. Most are putting down between 320-350awhp depending on supporting mods. Cams really help the top-end too.
Good race though, did he say what other mods he had? Im guessing at least exhaust and downpipe if he had the cams already.

A guy I know was running low 13s with full exhaust/ cammed/ bov and boot controller. If that helps.

Pretty much the same mods I have. Stock turbo, with bolt ons, including cams. Ran a 12.15@110 last week at 2250ft elev. with a 20+mph headwind

Nice runs for sure considering his mods. You sure it was not an VIII? The VIIs are virtually non-existent here in the US.

Do you know if he had any sort of tune for the cams? If not then look out because Evo's do not respond well to alot of mods without a tune. If not tuned he could be down 30-40whp! Alot depends on how well he can drive though. From a roll its kinda hard to screw up unless he cant shift. From a dig it takes some practice in these cars.

Well it depends alot on the driver as the launch is key but here are some times from the best Ive seen to average.

'03-'04, 13.1-13.4
'05, 12.9-13.3
'06, 12.7-13.1

The new IX's are insane! There is a guy in Florida with a full exhaust, intake, boost controller, clutch, and tune that is currently running 11.5's@117!!!!!!!!!

IX = VIII w/cams.

Buschur got 11.65@116mph on stock turbo with race gas on the VIIIs. And I'm sure that IX had ran that time with race gas.

The IX's are alot more than an VIII with cams as they are responding better the mods all around.

The times are with about 1 gallon of 110octane but he was still only running 23psi so it really wasn't even needed. There is also a stock turbo VIII running mid 10's and another running 11.2's but its fairly hard to do with an VIII.

No they aren't. Look at the time slips. The average time for an IX with exhaust, intake, boost and tune is low 12s. The average time for an VIII with exhaust, intake, boost, and cams is also low 12s. The cams give the EVO 8 that extra 30awhp it is handicapped with compared to the EVO 9.

9s have a little better turbo, and there putting down more bolton power. Just wait till mivic cams come out for the 9s. I think there are a few sets coming out for the 9s or they are out now.
