Default rice downing muscle?

well i gotta guy that says his '89 civic claiming 220 hp will kill my T/A but he supposedly dosen't catch traction till 4th gear. so he wont race from a dig and he talks $#!+ about how he will wax me from a kick but i won't race him cause i think all races should be 1/4 mile dead stop. Should i drop to his level and race him on his terms or not?

Yes. If it was a newer year I would say you need to look at what he has, but I don't see what you could do a 89 model to make it 220 hp unless he builds the hell out of the D15 and turbos it. And not having traction till 4th? C'mon, FWD traction is bad but 4th is a bit far-fetched. Beat his ***.

ask him exactly what is in it. I'd be happy to explain and report it for you. 220 in a car like that weighin in at around 1 ton will move.

My hatch *91* with around 200 WHP was good for 13s on street tires all day. With my slicks I might dip 12s so yea he could pull a stock light modded ls1 car.

hes using some crap tires if hes not catching traction till 4th being even hondas shortest geared tranny 4th will be over 60 mph with even 13s.

I mean nothings happened so really just race and find out the hard way. It's just a race.

I thought it was a bitch to swap a H into those models... I have never heard of a K in one at all... I know you can swap a B, but I still wouldn't worry about that unless of a turbo...

Hasport has kits for both. H kit does take lil more work then a normal B swap though.

The H I am not for alteast for a street car, not big aftermarket extra weight up front, more then a B.

Ks its a ton of work and money but they are less then a B series in weight. First person to do so had bolt ons gutting and slicks 11s with ease now deep 11s with Cams and ITBs.

Friend of mine has a shop he is swapping a H into a 91 CRX... It looks pretty good but he has been working on it forever. That same shop swapped a K into a 92 hatch and it runs damn well. Just never see the older model Civics with anything.

Often not as you can get a clean looking 4th or 5th gen for maybe 4 figures
beat up ones even less, so yea kids do ruin the few left over.

Mine is not that slow though

If he ever wants some tech help with the H swap, i'd be happy to do what I can.

Me too. I have traction problems in third, and I think that is rediculous. I couldn't imagine 4th. I have a GOOD feeling he is bullshitting.

You have RWD cheater

I do agree probbly but some bald 13 inch tire and an 4.9 FD it's doable with a Honda if it really is making power.

Yah Ace$nyper is right. There has been K20's put into 88-91 civic bodystyles. Some guy they called Pacman put a K20A in a crx and with only bolt-ons was pulling 11's. But if it does 220hp it should be a 12 second car. Some guy I knew of with 192whp in his 92 hatch(which is heavier than a 89) pulled a 13.3 on slicks. If this guy is saying he is making 220whp on the motor especially that car can easily go low 12's. But he said he has 220hp??? Not whp, thats sounds suspicous. BTW I know of civics with 290whp that catch traction by 4th, so he is lying about that most likely

Get him to race you more than once, your way then his way or vice-versa. A built civic can be surprising sometimes, will probably be a good race. Get out there and make us proud

Well a well built LS V-TEC can hit 220whp if built right. The only thing is there are so many unknowns as to how fast it will actually be. Is the car gutted? What kind of tires? Is it actually 220WHP? Just race and find out.

he is full of crap. Anyone who actually put that much motor work into the car would have good tires.

Or better yet, tell, smoke em through 3rd gear and prove it.

I bet he can't.

I still dont understand why anyone would mod the heck out of a FWD car with no LSD.

An LSD on street tires in a FWD is useless. Just make sure he aint bringing out no slicks or anything. But a properly built LS/VTEC can make 210whp easily. Also if this hatch is fully gutted and weighs around 1800-1900 lbs, and is on slicks, you might be in trouble.
