Default how quick are blown 5.0's?

Buddy of mine has a caged 5.0 with a 4-link, stock 302 5.slow motor with a powerdyne pushing about 6psi.. i've got a full bolton LS1 in a 3000lb car, but only good leaf springs, no caltracs or anything.. he keeps running his mouth, i don't know if I can take him.. any advice? both cars on drag radials..

302's are stange beasts and range from 134bhp to about 235bhp in stock trim over the years. Some take too boost well. But if it's a later 225bhp 5.0 in a Fox I doubt it's at 300rwhp if it's how you describe it.

Aftermarket blocks (Dart 331) with boost should be able to see 650rwhp no problem.

a friend of mine had an 89 5.0 with a powerdyne.
Im not sure of the psi, but stock engine, with stock gears he bested a 13.3, on a 75 degree night. He said on his stock motor with a flowmaster he pulled 359 at the motor. It was fast, but not crazy fast.

Yeah that seems to tally in quite well with the other reports I've seen. There's some good articles on Kennebell's website.

Something doesn't sound right. A cage and 4-link (I assume not stock suspension which is considered a 4-link of sorts) with a STOCK 302 on 6 P.S.I.? A stock 302 bottom end can't take much. My guess is he'd be lucky to make 370 RWHP. unless he's lightened the car a bunch, I bet you take him. Run him and see.

I had a 5.0 with a Vortech and bolt-ons and it ran 12.80's@108 with a crappy tune(spewing balck smoke). It may have gone 12.50's. I put a C-4/stall, H&C&I and it went 10.91@124 with the stock block.

I think the highest those powerdynes can do is about 12lbs.

That being said, if he really is at 6#s he would be at about the power level of a stock ls1. So you've got him beat in power. If he doesn't have some good weight reduction you will have him there as well. If you can get that off the line I can't see him keeping up at all really.

Wow. Did it last? That's something like (depending on weight) 450-500 to the tires? Even with a valley and main girdle that seems like a time bomb. Maybe block filler?

I would think you need about 4-450 in an average weight fox to hit a 10.9, but that's a high trap for a fox so it might have been on the higher end of that range. But yea, even then that's a ticking timebomb. They can make 450 no problem and hold it with a very good tune, but I don't know if it would last long wailing down a track like that...........either way sounds like a badass car.

You want have a problem! I also have a 5.0 94 cobra that has a Vortech and I was pushing 12lbs with an awsome Tune! It made 400 rwh roughly. Nothing crazy fast but it might surprise ya. I would just run him. I think you should win.

you guys forget, you are thinking of the bd-11 powerdyne there is also a gear driven powerdyne for stangs that can crank out some power.

Ive only seen those in older books, never seen one on a car in real life, and him saying it's on 6#s leads me to believe its the centrifugal, as that's what they run stock.

5.0s are one of those platforms that can be either dog slow or really mean. Its all in who does it and if they cheap out or not.

I bet on you.

their quite the motor. a few boltons and their int he 13's. nothing special. then you do some wiked internal work with a blower and your int he 10's. 2 rollin arouind my area that run low 10's. crazy vortech blowers on both of them.

then again theres a camm'd 5.0 around town that ran a 14.0 in the 1/4. their unpredictable.

I had that car before dyno's were readily available but Lidio@Alternative Auto Performance put the car together. I never had any problems with the car while I owned it (about 7 years). I sold the car to a friend and my cousin ended up buying it off him and putting the motor in his vert about 2 years after I sold it. He had it dyno'd at 43X/43X (Don Walsh). It started to use oil while he had the motor in his car, by then the shortblock had about 70k on it. A forged bottom and more boost (it made around 10lbs) It would have been a solid 10.50 car. I have a bone stock 92GT vert with 30k on it I would love to start playing with but unfortunately I have other things that are taking priority right now.

That's impressive from a stock block 302. Thanks for the reply.

Stock motor huh? Sure it is. Pay no attention to the 4 link and the cage certified
to 7.50's. Those are appearance mods.

If it's really a stock motor with a little boost, you'll stomp him.

cool. i'm not too worried, then. should be fun. we're always bagging on each other about the 5.slow and my craparo. If he beats me, in goes a cam or a wet kit...and i put buslengths on him next time. thanks for the input.
