Raced a stock (well, exhaust if that counts) LT1 in the saturn tonight from a slow (35) roll. Man, I cant believe how slow those things are stock. I put at least 5-7 cars on him to 100. Miss my LT1... almost running again. Almost. Anyway, he deserved to lose. He had altezzas.

I don't think its necessarily a matter of them being slow stock, but rather that most LT1s these days unfortunately are tired, ragged out, or just not running in top condition. I drove my '93 A4 Z28 to a best of 13.7@103mph bone stock back in the day. Good kill none the less....Altezzas....hehehehe, rice boy.

That has to be one of the most un-intelligent things about an LT1 I have ever read.

My LT1 when it was stock ran high 13's, and it had over 100K.
Its not the car, its the people who drive and take care of it.

LT1's are strong engines that usually hit 150,000+ miles with minimal maintenence. Many have cleared 200-250K... and I mean many.
If your mid 14 second car beat an LT1, I would be happy too.
And put some better rubber on that Saturn!

Have you guys seen his trap speed? That would put him well into the 13s with traction, and is more than enough to drag a stock LT1.

My statement was in response to the longetivity of the engine.
As far as the race, that trap speed is enough to hand it to many LT1's/LS1's.

Burnzilla.......you may want to RE-READ my post. My statement was in no way a reflection of the longevity or lifespan of the motor, but rather if you do not take care of a car, especially an older car with higher miles, the performance of the vehicle WILL suffer. That is a FACT. I built and raced LT1s for MANY years, I know what they are, and what they are NOT. Yes, they are strong engines.....I knew plenty of people spraying 150 shots on them at 150,000 miles, and mine had 145,000 on it when I sold it and ran like a CHAMP. The simple FACT remains though, that if you do not take care of the car, and keep up with the maintenance....it is NOT going to perform in top condition...I don't care WHAT motor it is.

I agree.

You said most of them . I think you meant to say, "most of the poorly taken care of LT1's."
But for the most part you are correct... most of them are beat pretty good because they are easy to afford and their market attraction is younger males.

I think he meant to say exactly what he meant to say. Most LT1's these days do seem to be tired, ragged out, etc, which is due to being poorly taken care of. Either way it doesn't really matter, it seems everyone is in agreeance now.

Yup to both of you, I don't see too many LT1s around these days....and the ones I do see are generally a sight for sore eyes. I can now understand why I see kill stories of lesser cars beating up on basically stock LT1s. Makes me sad....that is the first car I really had as my own growing up and got into modding and building. They just aren't getting any younger, and not a lot of people give them the good care/maintenance that they deserve. I hate to see them getting a bad wrap as these "slow" "turds" because they certainly AREN'T if taken care of.

My 14.4 pass was with some serious clutch and traction issues. I had a 2.66 60'.

Sad, but true. It's a highway monster for now until i can afford some axles, a clutch and some tires.

LT1s are getting to be quite a rarity these days. i get many compliments whenever i bring my LT1 places, whether it be the mall, or people's houses, or parties, or whatever... it feels good that the ol' LT1s are still accepted into the racer society. they're not THAT slow from the factory. they lack slightly, but nothing a little TLC can't fix...

I trapped 103.8 with a 2.2 60' with just a CAI exhaust and electric water pump, no way would 2 mph equal 5-7 car lengths, unless your talking matchbox car lengths...

It is what it is. Street racing isnt scientific. MY car trapped 78 in the 1/8 and 105 in the 1/4. Thats a 27 mph gain, you figure out what traction does for me.

i trapped 85 in the 1/8th in my slobalt with a 2.6 60ft but only 105 in the 1/4 clutch was slipping as well.
