Default My 98Z vs. 05 WRX STi

One night after work my coworker and I decided to see how our cars matched up. I have a 98 Z28 A4 w/ a Fuddle 3400 stall, exhaust cutout (stock exhaust), and a lid. My coworker has a 05 STi with no mods. The first race was on the highway from a roll around 50. To my suprise he pretty much stayed right with me to 130. I shut down at 130 because I didn't want to crash into the traffic in front of me that was coming up really quick. I think my 2.73 gears were definitely the reason I didn't pull on him better from 50 -130. We then got off the highway and were lined up at a stoplight. I decided it was time to see if my converter was worth the time and $$$ I put into it. I heated up the Nittos so that I would hook. I looked over at my coworker and revved up my motor. He did the same. I foot braked the gas and then the light turned green. I hooked and he was toast. I shot out of the hole and just kept pulling on him until about 85 or 90 before shutting down and he was a good 4-5 cars back. The next day at work he was like, "I could have beat you if I would have dumped the clutch at 6k." I replied with "whatever, you got smoked." I definitely love my converter even more after beating a WRX from a dig like that. I'm not sure what to do about the lack of power on the highway though. Maybe the 100 shot of nitrous I am almost finished installing will help

Good kill. Seems kinda weird you beat the AWD car from a dig worse than you did from a roll, but ehh a wins a win

50 is a very bad place to start with 2.73's. If you do a rolling start again with him, try 35, that way you are not in the bottom of 2nd.
But great job on taking him from a dig, that is what counts

It's actually not as easy as people think launching with an awd car, aspecially with a stock clutch, people tend to get over excited and bog.

Good runs... it's definitely more exciting when you win something that you're not expecting to, isn't it?

Was it an STi, or a WRX? i know title says STi but you said WRX in story...just wanted to clearify. You SHOULD whip a WRX from a dig and destroy one on the highway...so maybe it was an STi? But an STi with a decent driver should take you from a dig to at least 40. Hmm then again i've never ridden in a stalled auto...either way NICE KILL love killin them imports with the equalizer (turbo)

It is an STI. And yes the stall makes a HUGE difference out of the hole in an A4.

Good kill, I can see why your car is so good from a dig as that's where mine is best. Since the Stall went in nothing can live with the Z from the traffic lights.

I don't have so much competion as you guys cause I'm in the uk. We have Evo 8 here and WRX's STI's.

I raced an Evo 8 from 20 -120 it was dead even. I also raced a WRX in my 95 Z28 from 20-130 he could not catch me he just stayed 4-5 cars back. He was on it as I was flat out and I had to let him by or re-end the cars coming up in my lane.

This stalled LS1 would take both cars from a dig without Nitrous IMO

When I used to race stock WRX in my 93 LT1 A4 those guys would always get me out of the hole. I guess a stall makes a pretty good difference alright!!

Thats a good story. The RWD kickin *** from the line and doing so-so from a stop. I find myself in that predicament sometimes. I was messing with a cammed, stalled LS1 almost a year ago and I edged him out by a nose from a 50 roll, yet from the line he had me to 100mph by a nose. Weird stuff.

Nice kill from a dig. I'm surprised he hung with you on the highway. It has to be the 2.73's. I raced one on the highway that had intake, exhaust and bov. I destroyed him! But i'm a m6

The stall feels kinda loose to start with but you soon get used to it and it's like it's always been that way. My stall has been in 9 months now and it dropped me 1/2 second in the 1/4 mile.

1/4 times are in my signature but with a few mods I've done that I have not tried at the track yet high 12's on the motor and I am going to try 125 and 150 shot in there with a nitrous controller and some Nittos which should give me high 11's.

Your boy needs to learn to launch. Even a stock STi should hit 1.7 to 1.8 60' on any tarmac. A stalled A4 on the street (non prepped tarmac) should at best be able to launch as well but in most cases should be out launched by an AWD car.

And both the WRX and STi will launch close to the same if done right.

Any case, good kill.

yep, its actually hard to launch an AWD car. I have a friend who ran a 15.6 with an 06 WRX... lol. But then my other friend ran a 13.0 with an STI with header, downpipe, and intake cause he could launch. Too bad he broke his rear axle on the next run, lol.

Well if you aren't breaking something, you aren't running hard enough.
