Default Why do i feel like a Fiat after 120?

So every time i race on the highway, after 120 mph it goes nowhere. It take tooooo long for it to take 120-140, and it makes the car seem like almost anything else. I raced an E46 M3 he other day for the second time. First time i killed him on the street like a car and a half. We went on the highway, and hit at 35, and i pulled literally at least 3 cars on him untill 120. As i was progressing to 140, and passed the **** out of me. He flew by me like nothing. I was pissed. What can i do to discover my lost top end power? Flash tune? Full exhaust. What is the problem?

is your car a stick? if thats teh case, then downshift, if not, then remember one thing, it takes alot of horsepower to overcome wind resistance and maintain high speeds, muchless go faster.

My old Fiat Syider 2000 wouldn't make it past 100MPH.
That ought to cheer you right up

Matting it for anything more than a couple of seconds
probably kicks in the cat overtemp protection and puts
you even more piggy rich than normal/stock. But it's
not much good speculating on which of the many
stock shortcomings, let alone abnormalities, might be
involved. Get the facts (scan) and then you can work
from there rather than guessing.

You think that's disappointing? At 120+ my car feels so light that I get scared and shut the dam thing down. Everything is perfect and even have more to push. My buddy told me "Man your car feels like it's riding on air at those speeds..." The next night another one of my buddies told me "MAN YOU'RE CRAZY!!! STOP OR LET ME OUUUUUUUUT!!! "

You dont have to call someone an ***......for all he knew you are 16 and this was your 1st car.......nobody knows your age or background..........if it is a 6-speed you should be able to hit the 160 stock with out a problem........i took mine to 140 the first night i got it....it was still pulling i just didnt want anymore at the time....it didnt take long.......it was all stock.........but im at sea level......that might make the differents

not trying to be rude, but i do know how to drive, and i'm shifting VERY hard. but as soon as i hit 130, the pull is almost non existent. It's very strange especially seeing as you camaro guys are telling me you have no problem with top end pull. Cause from my knowledge the car is almost identical so an ss. I'm thinking there may be someting wrong, maybe a tune up. cause i took my car to 143 mph, and afterwards it feels and pulls like it needs at least a couple miles to get to 160, if even possible seeing as the goverenor is said to be set at 155. I'm just not sure what's going on. If normal, which could be possible because it is stock, i would love to know what i could do to help the situation, ie. flash program, full exhaust, etc. I would appreciate the help. Did'nt mean to offend anyone, just a sarcastic person.

Theres guys who claim they've gone 170 stock... (M6). I dont believe anyone is trying to say you cant drive, but its common to see people on here post that you gotta run it high in 5th to get to 150-160. I know people say the speed is limited to 155, but Ive read that outside the 115mph limited models (non z-rated tires) that there was no limit and that the figure just comes from magazine tests of the days. Could be wrong on that, but its what Ive read.

Problem with your car... thats all it could be... assuming as you say you are driving correctly. My Z' pulls straight to 160... and it PULLS straight to 160 never does it feel like its running out of breath.

Check out your intake components from filter to the manifold.. what are you spinning your car up to?

As far as the limiter... any LS1 F-body was speed limited to either 155 or 160. Our speedomoter are slow often so its tought to reall know. Maybe someone that knows better whill chime in. But i do remember watching a show about top speed challenge among a bunch of cars. I think it was a corvette, a trans am (both LS1 years) a mustang and a viper?... anyway I think with the speed limiter taken off people can run our cars up to 170.. maybe past?..

I have a hard time believing 170 out of a stock F-body, considering a stock LS1 Corvette would only do 174 or so... but hey, I could be wrong.

Huh this is a 1st for me.. And ls1 guy without top end, says thw WRX guy (aka no top end).

Simple fix is to stop racing about 120. Play on your cars strong spots. Thats what I do. I race to 30mph and then shut down. I haven't lost yet.

Ok kidding aside we still don't know anything about your car. A mod list or tranny type would help.

its a stock 01 ws6 with the 6 spd manual. I take it all the way through 5th, serious redline action, and 150 especially 160 seems like it's minutes away. I just hope something is wrong, cause this sucks.

Are you sure your not driving a Mustang?

lol, j/k.

Well, my buddy owned an 01 Ws6 A4 and it had a limiter on it. I know the manuals have them also sometimes. Once he hit 130, the car started pulling pretty slow and my friends 97 LT1 would start pulling on it. The LT1 was actually faster past 130 which was weird...(both cars stock) Obviously, up until that point the LS1 would dominate the LT1 though...

somethings wrong....my car is only a turbo 3.8 and i hit 140 no problem...if anything past 80, my car feels like its moving faster then it was....and at 125 my front end feels light....i very rarely ever go past 120 because of this....

Im also a A4
