Default A4 Z28 vs. STI w/ a question.

Well last night my friend raced this **** talker in a STI. My friend has a 01' A4 Z28 with a lid, lt's, true duals, and 100 shot and street tires. Well the STI was talking **** saying that the Z28 wasn't **** and he would get smoked by at least 3 cars. We didnt know what the STI had other than the exhaust we could hear. So we went to some backroads, and raced. They raced two times and the Z28 won both times by a 1.5 cars only because he wasnt getting any traction. So the guy in the STI tells us that he will race us in two days and will put $150 on the race, so my friend agrees and tells him, we'll race back here in two days. Well my friend is going to move his shot from a 100 to a 125 shot, and he has some brand new MT drag radials mounted on some snowflakes laying around. Do you guys think it would be fine to run the drag radials with the stock 10-bolt. The car is an A4 with no stall so there aint too much stress on the rearend and my friend wasn't planning on squeezing until about 15 feet out of the hole. I don't think anything will really go bad. What do yall think?

Yah he hasn't had time to put in the stall or rearend. Thats why he had the drag radials laying around, he was waiting for a stall and rearend, but now thinks he is going to need them. We don't know what the STI is going to get.

Im surprised he beat him because they are low 13 second cars stock and deep in the 12s with a few mods.

Yah, well the Z28 did have a 100 shot. Even with street tires it should also be a low 12 second car I'm guessing.

kinda fishy how he needs two days until they race again. Who knows what he could be getting done, might have parts waiting to be installed that he gets installed before the race? maybe a wetshot? Id be more worried about the tranny then the rear end on a stalled A4. A4s dont put as much stress on the rear as the M6s, instead they f up the 4L60E if dogged on a lot or if theres no tranny cooler. up the shot and throw those M/Ts on and smoke that cocky kid again....

i think the tranny will be fine if he is not spraying through the shifts...i have my stock tranny and rear with nittos and cam stall and everything for about 5-10k miles with no problems

If I'm right I believe there is a window switch on the car, so we don't have to worry about squeezing through shifts, also the car doesn't have a stall. With the added traction and bigger shot of nitrous, I think we still will take it.

Yah, like I said earlier he upped it from 100 to 125 shot and now has the DR's. The DR's are going to help out alot.

Save the spray. You wont need it. Ive raced 2 STI b4 w/ just lid and exhaust and beat them both. With the drag radials you should kill him. Make sure he doesnt intall spray in the next 2 days.

N20 is an uncommon mod for an STi. I see very few sprayed WRX/STi and the ones I have seen were only 25 shot or 50 shot to help spool a big turbo.

I hate to say it but it wouldn't be hard to take a stockish STi and put down 350+awhp. 20g turbo, injectors, fuel pump and a tune. You are talking about maybe 8 hours install time and another 2 for a tune. 2 days leaves a lot of time to mod.

My guess is if the guy is willing to put down money on the race that he has atleast a turbo swap in mind. Pretty much the smallest turbo they put on an STi is a 20g and will put down around 350awhp to 390awhp on pumped depending on the support mods, dyno and tune. No doubt a 20g STi is an 11 second car. Now thats the smallest turbo upgrade I've seen on an STi.

STi with a 20g - 390whp and 378wtq @22psi

STi with a 20g - 356whp and 346wtq @ 1.4bar which is about 20.3 psi

Sounds like the drag radials should give him enough to win, but if it was me, I'd up it to a 150 shot just to be safe.

^Yah exactly what we were thinking, I think we are going to do the 150 shot. 150 shot with DR's should be enough. If not then 408, 250 shot, TH400, and a 9", lol j/k(or maybe not)

I agree with this guy below ....except that maybe he is getting baited as money is going to be involved this next race

With the A4 and DRs you should be with him out of the hole OK. Select a nice dry flat clean spot, that will mean a lot more to you than it does to him.

Another 25 on top a solid victory means that I'm betting on you. Yes, he could do a lot in 2 days. But realisticly I dont think he will. Procure, install, and tune a larger turbo in 2 days? Its definitely doable, but pretty unlikely. This guy sounds overconfident.

^And does any one else really like a thread where someone talks about upping it to a 150 shot for the sake of safety

Ok guys they just raced about 2 hours ago. I didnt have a camera on me, but anyways here is how it went. My friend did put in a 150 shot and put the DR's on. So we did two practice runs because his bottle was low and we were going to go refill it up anyways. The car ran extremely good. So we then went and filled the bottle up after cooling it for awhile and brought it home and put it back in the car. Well we get a call about a hour later from the STI guy to let us know he will be at the spot in about 15 minutes. So we go to my friend's car and head out(with another 3 cars that were with us) and he turns on his bottle warmer. Well we get there and they ask us if we have our $150 and we said yeah, so then they line up. I did notice that the STI was running a open downpipe. My friend does a burnout to warm up the DR's and the STI moves up to line up again. Then the flagger drops his hands and the STI jumps out about 1.5 cars, but my friend said that his pull was instantly stopped when he squeezed and he started coming back slowly. Halfway through the race my friend was half a car in front and he said thats when it got ugly for the STI and he just started pulling away. At the end, my friend was 3-4 cars ahead. Well they came back, and the STI guy gave my friend the $150. My friend then asked what the STI had done and the guy said not too much, just simple bolt-ons, and then the STI guy asked my friend what the Z28 had done, and my friend said not too much, just simple bolt-ons, lol. Then we left and ate at IHOP which my friend payed with the STI's $150, lol.
