Default 03 cobra vs 05 sti

raced a sti tonight. first race was from a dig and he launched like a **** and i spun through 2nd went for third and missed next run from a dig he launched like a **** again and i spun again but i started pulling like a freight train at 60 and he shut down as soon as i started pulling. then we went from a 20 roll and he got the jump but as soon as i pulled even he let off. then we went from a 40 roll and i put bus lenghts on him through 90 but he said he let off at around 60 since i was runing away from him. The last run i wanted to try a dig again just to see if he would take it over 80 well he launched like a **** again and i spun 1st, spun some more in 2nd short shifted to 3rd and got traction around 60 and started pulling then he let off.

his mods were intake, upgraded turbo, full exhaust, and a tune. my mods in the sig. i told him that once i get the x pipe, some drag radials, and some warmer temps we would go again. he was a cool guy though, also he was obsessed with the blower whine.

I wonder what turbo he put on the car.

Any clue how much you are putting out?

Good races. I'm sure he shut down cause he knew you were just going to run by him.

Nice kill/death Keeping up with an 03 Cobra even just to 80 is very sweet. I have a video of me driving my buddies 03 Cobra (he can't drive) racing my GMMG Blackbird. I'll see if I can post it up on a thread.

When you get your tires he won't be able to outlaunch you quite as bad. Tho you'll still have your hands full thru the 1/8th; cause STI's can pull 1.7's on the street.

Yeah it is a shame he shut down when you started to pass but a least he didn't act like he would have stayed out in front. Sounds like he didn't do real bad on the roll races, he should have stayed in it tho cause once he got into 5th and 6th he would have been in full boost longer per gear.

He kept letting off once you started reeling him in so he could feel like he won all of the races. wrx & evo cars are a good enough reason for me to want to run drag radials on the street.

thanks. the turbo is a step bigger than stock. so he claims. but yeah i had never raced one from a dig and i knew he was going to out launch me but i didnt think it would be like that. i bet he put an easy 4-6 cars on me before i got traction.

Nice races, but pretty lame of the guy to keep letting off like that.

Any idea what he was running for tires? There's an STI around here with 4 Nitto DR's on it, and one I saw at a local show with 4 Hossier slicks on it and that guy said it launched like crazy but that he had beefed things up to take it.

Nearly every WRX or STi that ran DR's has broken something. Even Big Valley(shop car) broke the driveshafts when they 1st tried launching the car with DR's.

There are a few cars running them but every nut and bolt needs to be addressed to do it. It's just a massive shock to the system.

With that said the best launching WRX I have ever seen was on one DR's that cut a 1.3 60' but they have a custom build setup that lets them put all the power to the rear wheels for burnouts and then switch the power to both. The car is crazy quick.

I think its time for a set MT Drag Radial..... At some local street races here in Jersey, I had similar problem those AWD cars. They would launch hard and by the time you catch up, they are hitting the brakes. It is an old ricer trick. That is how they claim their wins. However, ask them to run on the highway and the excuses start comming!! Well, after getting fed up with spinning my street tires though 1st and 2nd, I decided to get some 31 Spline Moser axels and a matching 31 spline posi and a pair of MTs. Now I do not have to play catch-up anymore. I do most of the damage now on my thrid gear pull when the 32V is in the sweet spot!
Best part is, is that your Cobra already has the 31 spline good stuff. All you need is the tires and today, those drag radial actually last a long time.

it's called sanity, believe it or not 80-90mph is fast enough on public streets. And really old school like when my Dad was a teenager (circa 1900 ) one car length ahead was a win. Besides real racing is going from a dig; got traction problems get some damn tires.

80-90 isnt even a 1/4 mile run most street races are in the 120-140 range. from what i have seen and done. who stops at 80mph?? and before you flame for racing on public roads it was in the middle of no where and we were the only cars on the road with no houses around either. but yeah i do need some tires. maybe a solid axle swap too.

I disagree, IMO 90% of street races are streetlight to streetlight and/or a blast up to speedlimit +/-. Happens every day at just about every redlight in the country.
