Default 1998 T/A Vs. 2003 Mach 1

A friend of mine and I are going for a ride at dusk yesterday when a red Mach 1 comes up on us and blows by. i see a second set of headlights behind me so i don't chase him down. (this is all in the country where speed ilmit is 55 and their is no one for miles except the sherrifs). so at the next stop sign he is waiting and i line up next to him and tell him about the guy behind me and not wanting to run inforont of a cop, he tell s me its his friend in a truck and sure enough it is so we go up another mile and lign them up.

RACE 1: Going from a 20 mph roll, after three honks and were off, we both get a good jump and i'm just ahead by a little, he starts his pull and clearly wins the roll race.

Race 2: This time from a dead stop, i honk threetimes while i hear him hold his rpm's at about 2,000 and we're off, i get about a car and a half jump on him but by 50-60 he is coming up on me again, by 95-100 we are about neck and neck with me just a little ahead of him. I say i win the dig race.

all and all it was a good night, he claimed he only had an X-pipe and maybe an intake, clean car and a nice guy, (it was a red car with black markings), got his number and should have a few more good races with this guy down the road.

Sounds like it was a really good race. The LS1 and the 4.6 Mach 1 is a drivers race.I am surprised he was outpowering you on the top-end though with that NA dohc 4.6.

yeah i was surprised too, i thought i would have pulled better up there on him but i guess not, i don't know all that he had done but i'm about 1,000 miles past an oil change too, not sure if that has any bearing.

LOL! I'm kinda thinking an oil change wouldn't have helped you out, but good try!

I think it's just the fact that your car is 9 years old... might want to do a basic tune-up (plugs/wires/oil/tranny fluid/gear lube/O2 sensors) to get her running strong again

You got any exhaust on that 1998? A nice set of Long Tubes and a decent tune will keep that from happening to you.

Add a couple bolt on mods and that should give you the upper hand next time you race him.A tune up new wires, plugs, pcv valve, and fuel filter would be beneficial alsol.
