Posted this in the road racing section, but didn't get much feedback...

I know how to drive, but theres a couple of things I'm working on, and would like to know the technically way to do it, instead of half assing it as I am...

Launching- I've been revving it to 3500ish and feathering the clutch
Sideways- pop the clutch and turn the wheel
Drifting- go 3/4 throttle midway through turn
Brake Stand- heel on brake toes of gas, rev to 4000, pop clutch

If I'm missing anything let me know...
Any advice will be appreciated...
Again, these are the ways I've been doing it, idk if they're right or if I'm going to end up blowing my rear, destroy my clutch etc...

btw dont feather out the clutch unless you like to replace them allot

Well sir i wish we had a better answer for you. However it that was all their was to driving. We would all be in million dollar homes driving F1 cars.


If you have a 10 bolt stock rear. I would be very very careful as to what tires you run and how hard you beat on that thing. Its not a question of if. Its a question of when

I know theres alot more to it, but I'm trying to put it as technical and clear as I can... I don't see anyone else answering with a logical explanation. And I can do all of the things I listed, just wondering if theres a proper way to do it.

There is alot of feathering when drifting, it's not just 3/4 throttle and you're all perfect.... what happens when you're fishtailing too much? keep 3/4 throttle? Or not enough, 3/4 throttle? I've watched professional drivers do their thing, I can view but not duplicate. You can go to your local book store and find a, "How To Drift, For Idiots" Maybe it has all the answers

Drifting...
Drifting takes practice, you can't just explain it but...when you are sideways, you increase throttle to get more sideways and decrease throttle to straighten yourself out. The faster your spin your tires the less grip you have the more your back end will get out from behind you. The slower you spin your tires the more friction will occur and your *** will want to get behind you again.
Launching...
Every car is different and again it's all about feel not a how to manual. Feathering a clutch will burn it up and **** your tranny. Do a few launches by dropping the clutch at different RPM's until you figure out a good rpm where your tires will chirp. You lose more time regaining traction once it's lost than you do easing into acceleration.
Sideways...
You can do that by just turning the wheel back and forth. Getting Sideways is achieved by turning the wheel in the opposite direction of the momentum of the car, accelerating during the shift will help get the tires loose.
Not sure what your referring to by brake stand but if your meaning wha tI think you mean then it only applies to an automatic and you don't need to worry about it. In any case you need to find and empty parking lot and practice. You'll learn more that way.

You cant encapsulate the proper technique for all that in a thread. You would be hard pressed to do it ina website.

Tires,temperature,prep,weight,gearing,power,powerb and,altatude,springs,shocks, brakes, time, pressure........


All affect driving for that kinda crap.

Thanks, I know its all about practice but I don't want to start out with bad habits. Just wanted a base to work from. Thanks for all the info. Time to go ruin some tires...
