08 Stock WRX vs 99 T/A
A Guy at work just got a brand new 2008 WRX and we are already talking a little trash about a race. My car is a stock A4 besides a lid and a cat-back. When my car was stock I ran a 13.67 in the ¼ mile. I think it would not even be close considering those cars run low 14’s stock in a ¼ mile race. He however wants to go 1/8th mile where he might have a chance?
What do you guys think easy money or does he have a shot?

From what I have seen at the track, the 1/8th mile should be close if he can launch the car good. If he cant launch it then you should take the win. 1/4 mile is enough time to chace a good launch down though since he is stock it will start to fall on its face when your will pick up.

I'd be real surprised if he could keep up with you. Yeah yeah they are awd and turbo, but no real power. Plus he better hope he doesn't bog off the line, tricky to launch those cars without much power. I think you might get out 60 footed, but without any mods youll pull right past him even with 2.73s.

Are you sure it's not an STI and he took off the badges and crap...People do that around here. (I think it's dumb, but they do) The normal WRX you shouldn't have a problem with, but it will still be somewhat close in the 1/8. Make sure you have drag radials, or don't waste your time...You know he is going to launch good, so you need to be prepared. Also, if it's actually an STI, your going to lose...So, just be careful. I wouldn't race for money against an AWD car in the 1/8. It's not enough time to build up much speed. You won't trap much faster than 85...

I found the old time slip from my best previous run at the strip when the car was 100% stock and missing on the 2-3 shift due to having low tranny fluid:
R/T: .570
60 ft: 1.997
330 ft: 5.693
1/8th ET 8.702
1/8th MPH 82.45
¼ ET 13.626
¼ MPH 99.10
This is on 245 street tires…Now that I have a lid, cat-back and the trans is shifting correctly I should defiantly be able to run at least a few tenths faster….I may get my M/T drag radials by the race if I can find a used set of rim’s online….
I feel pretty safe to say I should kill a stock non-STI WRX I may try to get him to wager some $$$.......

^From a roll in one of the new VQ35 ones? Sure.
Not surprising considering its a 250ish HP car versus a 230ish HP with a bit more driveline loss and gears less suited to roll-ons.
