Default beat a cammed/stalled GTO and C6

ran a cammed(small cam he said, dont know the size) and 3500 stalled gto... on the right side was an 05 C6 with predator tune(remove torque management bs, although it is a 6 spd)

me? im in 2001 Z06 with just a catback and some sort of air intake, new cheapo tires on the back(178 per tire for 295's)

anyways, i 3 honk and we're off... put about 2 lengths on the gto immediately and had about 3.5 overall. i put about 4 on the C6 by the time it was all over. they have the runs on video, i cant search youtube as im at work right now. gto guy said he was doing around 400 at the wheels, i have no idea what i put down. id guess 350 tops? no clue. everyone ive ran has said, "thats fast for an 01"

oh, all this was from a roll of about 50mph. 2nd gear for me in peak powerband.

Wow, nice kills. Souns like you have a REALLY strong runner, as that's a lot of lengths for the GTO AND the C6. Was the C6 guy a decent driver? Being an M6, that can make a huge difference. Also, was it an 04 GTO or 05/06?

c6 guy... he needed some coaching. he kept starting in 3rd at 50, and i would put buslengths on him. i told him to slow to 30 so i knew he would be in 2nd, then i slowly moved it up to 50mph. there was an instant pull when we both floored it. the gto is an 05 i believe. it has hood scoops. i probably had an advantage from a roll because of the auto, but i am sure the stall helped that at least somewhat. i was surprised i didnt leave him in the dust to be quite honest, i did not know he had a cam. i had never heard the car before we ran. he said he has never been pulled like that by other stock(or near stock) z06's before.

i am a fairly decent driver id like to think too

Cool, yeah 3rd at 50 is out of his powerband. Sounds like good driving ***. If the GTO had scoops, it was an 05/06. If the brake lights had black around the edges, then it was an 06 (although a lot of people swap the 06 brake lights into 05s).

His stall wouldn't help him from a roll, only from a dig. You definitely have the advantage as an M6 vs an auto from a roll. Nice job.

so at what point do you have to shift? 70mph? because thats a really long first gear... the gear might go to 55mph, but you can NOT downshift to 1st from 80mph like we were running. pretty stupid to be in 1st if you only have a couple hundred rpms left... i dont know though, and quite frankly i dont care. i am NOT a C6 fan... the drivetrain, yes. everything else, no.

I figure it takes 430 to the wheels for a GTO to do a C5 Z06 with even mild mods. Headers and tune on the Z change the landscape. At 390-400 I'd guess you could beat a C5 Z06 with a GTO but it would be by outdriving him. My easiest races were catching a guy out of the hole or missing a shift which seems amazingly common to me. When I crossed 440 at the wheels I found I could reel them in pretty well through 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Somewhere in the upper atmosphere they'd catch me on top end. All in all I view the C5 Z06 as the classic hot rod of this century and along with the 03/04 Cobra a car that definitely merits all the rest of us measuring our mods by. Great race and post.

thanks man. i just cant wait until i get my cam, longtubes and tune installed. i have the longtubes on order, and i have picked the cam... just waiting on my new debit card to come in(last one was stolen) then ill order the cam, pully, and valve springs and HP tuners. hoping for 420rwhp cam only, and eventually down the road once i get a new clutch, do heads and maybe a 75 shot. i havent even made the first payment yet LOL

also, these tires hook almost as well as a nitto drag radial on the street, and they are a 280 treadwear... dont even have to heat them up. i can floor it in 1st gear and all i do is squat and go!

So was it 80 or 50? Either way c5 z06 should pull a c6.

Sounds like the C6 needed driving lessons. Either way a kill is a kill.

we ran from 55.... however, prior to slowing to 55mph, we were doing about 80. he would to have come to a complete stop(or maybe about 10mph, i can get into 1st at 10) then speed back up to 55...

you c6 guys' gears must really suck...
