Default Camaro SS vs. Duramax 2500HD

Well I pulled up to a light next to a white, short-bed, four-door Duramax Heavy Duty Pickup and was having a good look since I own one just like it. On the green light I pulled out pretty normal and short-shifted to second since I wasn't aware we were racing . . . suddenly he shot by me and it was pretty obvious what he wanted! So I just held it to the floor in second gear, and after a few seconds I was a couple of truck-lengths ahead, so I backed off the throttle and looked at the tach; it was at 5500 rpm. I was shocked that I had to try that hard to beat a 7,000 lb. truck! At the next light I gave him the "thumbs up" and told him I have a truck like his also and asked if he had the "Juice kit." He said he did. Pretty impressive. BTW, I still have stock internals, don't have the TR224 installed yet.

They do have tons of torque. And with that "juice kit" it must be even more wicked.

Stock is 300 hp and 520 ft-lbs torque. I think the Juice I adds another 90 hp and 200 ft-lbs, but there is also a Juice II that's around 125 hp. My Duramax is 100% stock but I can still outrun most "normal" cars on the road.

ya trucks are running goood esp. the diesles but it really sounds like you are just really really slow bc they are only running 14s with a bunch of stuff to them. i think i might know a little something about them.

On thedieselpage.com there is at least one Duramax truck that's running 13.5! I don't know what was done to it. As far as me being slow, I wasn't even in the race until he was a "truck length" ahead of me; that's when I realized he wanted to race, but I had already shifted to second at low rpm so it took a while for my moter to get up into the power band. If I'd known he was a pretty fast truck, I would have double-clutched it back into 1st gear and floored it and shot ahead of him immediatly. So there was an element of surprise here, but he was a very fast diesel. Another thing you must realize is I ended this race when two car lengths in front of him and I was just maxed out in second gear. If we had continued for a full quarter mile I would have been way ahead at the finish line. But, with a 40 mph speed limit and a big intersection coming up, I had to shut it down . . . he was still trying, though.

Nope, you obviously know nothing.

He went from low rpms in 2nd gear, with the truck a length ahead, to 2 cars ahead by the end of second gear. That means, in 1 full gear, he gained 3 lengths on the truck.

And you drive a ... what ... ?

A Dmax will suprise you.I laugh my *** off when I walk 6.0 and 8.1 HDs.I hear the usual" diesels smoke and are slow".I have yet to be beaten by a HD with a gasser. And get 17.5-19 mpg in a 7300lb crewcab 4x4 longbed with 33s on it.Its cool driving 500+ miles on a 34 gallon tank of fuel.I could run low 14s easily if I was willing to put 4 et streets on it.Edge hot juice and Amsoil drop in air filter are only mods so far.

Juice for diesels = Propane injection right?

its "equivalent" to nitrous on gas engines.....

I hate it when that happens.....your in a higher gear than you "should be" and then find yourself in a race.....really screws things up....then you either have to freak out and downshift or just hold through it (let the engine come up) and hope the guy isn't too far ahead by the time you come out of the bog....

fun run....

The Juice Kit is just some kind of electronics "black box" that plugs into the harness that goes to the engine. I was told it mainly just changes the injector pulse width. I thought it might reprogram the turbo boost also but I guess that's automatic with diesels; you inject more fuel and the boost goes up with it due to increased exhaust presure.

125hp and 325 lb ft for $950.00.Hows that for a bolt-on.Factory boost is 18psi max. With the hot Juice its in the 28-29 psi range. The company makes 3 different levels of performance.I had to get the Hot one of course. These trucks dyno 380rwhp and 820rwtq thru a power soaking Allison auto.I would guess flywheel would be 500hp-1,000tq.

Holly cow that's a lot of boost! Plus diesels have around 20:1 compression, so with that boost and that compression, that's a lot of cylinder presure!
