Default Do SHO's Have Go? No!

Ovcourse my races are a much much smaller scale than you V8 guys, but winning makes you feel good no matter how big your motor is. Anyway i seldom race, (its a v6, couldn't be too impressive) I, like most of you am a Dedicated GM owner and when given the chance to play with a ford of equal standing, i do. Anyway I had some guy in a "newer" style taurus SHO pull up and smirk at me and my V6. I looked over at his ___
/V8/ emblem and figured, ah what the He!!
Anyways to make a long story short drug him by about 4 lengths. Just curious, does anyone know if they come with 4.6L??

No. The SHO you raced is a 3.0L V8 which was only used in that car and only made for a couple years. I'm guessing that's because they had some problems with them. Good kill but you must have some mods on that truck or else the SHO probably would've beaten you.

Thanx . I feel kinda stupid speaking highly of my lil v6 ext. cab. Any idea what they run at the track? My truck with hypertech pp3, gibson cat back, helix power tower, airaid cold air, screenless mass air ran 15.49. so not too bad, considering.

I think that the '96-'99 SHO's had a 3.4L V-8 with 235hp/230tq and 1/4 times in the mid 15's.... They also had many problems with the cams in those V-8's. Either way good kill!

You're right. I think I was thinking it was 3.0L because my dad has an old one with the 3.0L V6. The older ones had Yamaha engines and they were crap too. However, the '90 my dad has for a beater car is pretty quick. I believe the ones made in those years could run lower 15's.

Yes they are. That V8 they put in the final SHO's was a piece of crap. I've seen several sources claim that the '89-'91 SHO's ran about 15.2-15.3 in the quarter. I've driven the car plenty and it feels like a low 15 second car so that's probably pretty accurate. Probably the main reason the V6 models were faster was because they had a 5-speed while the SHO's like the one you raced were all automatics.

A guy at work had one. The TB wore out (WTF) before 70K miles, the tranny was replaced several times, the doors sagged worse than a third gen F-body, and the interior sucked. At least his cams didn't break.

I had a 91 , you think our clutches are bad I went thru four in a year and a half, launch over 1500 rpm and it turns to toast real fast, only benefit was they were all replaced for free, motor was sweet for it's time.

Sorry buddy, didn't mean to put a damper on your kill. It's still a good kill for a truck. I was just alluding to what these other guys were saying as far as poor quality. I've heard many horror stories about the cams in these cars failing. It was just a poorly made engine.

the trans on the SHO was ****, a buddy of mine had a 93 5 speed, with a 3.0. fast and fragile. his friend had a 94 with the 3.2 auto. same. his mom had a 96 or 98. that car was fast, had a chip in it, i got that car to above 130, prolly close to 150. i dont know cause after the speedo passed about 130, the needle started to go backwards, and then hit 0 and went back up to about 35. weird. the tach was still climbing, so i know i was still goin
